Saab 9-3 1.9 TDI sport 2006 - Help - lewidawn
I have a saab 9-3 1.9 TDI 2006. Engine management light was on and lots of black smoke was coming out of the exhaust . Egr was replaced it was not better, now had the mass air flow changed. The ecu light stayed off for about 10 miles. It then came back on. I rang the garage back they explained this is ok and it should go out after the car had had a good run. I decided to try to give the car a good run-the turbo kicked in brilliant then stopped and the car became very sluggish. I turned the ignition off and started the engine up again and the car seems fine again. The ecu light is still on. Is the garage right about taking time for the light to go out ? And does anyone know what happened with the turbo. I have only had the car 4 weeks and I am losing confidence in driving it

It's not the car you should be losing confidence in, but rather that garage you're using. Diagnosis by guesswork rarely works for finding the fault, but is a great money spinner for the garage changing loads of parts un-necessarily while some poor mug is paying for it.

Whereabouts in the country are you - maybe someone can point you toward a Saab specialist - there's plenty about.

The engine in the Saab is the same as in the Vauxhall Vectra 1.9 CDTI and Alfa Romeo's (Fiat engine basically)

Common fault on these are the inlet manifold swirl flaps gunging up due to poor EGR design plus infrequent oil changes.

Best advice, as has been said, is find a decent garage that has at least some knowledge on these engines as it seems the current one has little idea what they're doing. If the car has been fixed correctly, the EML will go off immediately. Anyone who tells you it'll go off 'in time' is full of it !!!!

...or take it to a diesel specialist, they usually know what they are doing.
