Advice required regarding engine noise. Had new central and backbox fitted and car sounds as if blowing still. Not a constant sound but almost pulsing. Seems to be down on power also.

Within the first year of owning my then 10 year old polo I had to replace a pencil coil. Then it started running rough, using a lot of oil and I noticed a breather valve was flattened so replaced it. The EML came on and so I took it to a garage who said it was not leaking oil, most likely burning it up, but it was out of their depth so I took it to VW. VW replaced the crankcase oil breather and gave the all clear. EML came back on and VW said (on quick free check) one spark plug (I think no 1 or 3) was sooting up instantly when replaced, probably caused by damaged cylinder so it needs a new engine.
I read about the cam chain slipping being a common fault, linked with the oil. Could this cause it to burn oil and misfire? The previous owner was not a careful driver and may never have checked the oil as she relied on her mechanic uncle who serviced it once a year :(
It has run for another year with me topping up the oil and changing the spark plugs only once and passing it's MOT. Then it started running rougher so I changed the plugs, oil and oil filter which was dirty and it's not made as much difference as before. Is there hope that it might just need the cam chain adjusting and it is worth keeping?

I've just had a catastrophic failure of a corroded front sensor whilst travelling at high speed in the outside lane of a 3-way A road. The tyre instantly deflated. Fortunately I did not lose control. This article, plus several posts to Citroen owners forums, shows that I've been travelling in a timebomb. The sensor in the other front wheel was also corroded and its retaining nut already showing signs of splitting. So I bought two new sensors/nuts and when the tyre shop came to remove the sensor in the other front wheel, it immediately came apart along the crack into two pieces. The rear sensors look OK and I've discovered why - the main dealer from where I bought the car had replaced these as they were corroded, this was at the service he did when I bought the car. No mention of the front sensors.... Read more

hi all, my front fogs don't work. I know it has nothing to do with MOT, (passed just fine), but i want to sell and it would be nice to have them working! the bulbs and fuses are good! theres no live feed to the bulbs. I suspect the switch. They are around £20 used on ebay. Is there anything else it could be? is the old switch easy to remove?
also my remote locking is temperamental. Works on the fob when it wants, the batteries in both fobs are new. I have tried syncing doing the button/key in door method. No difference. Theres a red and green light on each door. Surely both these receivers can't have failed? any ideas?... Read more

I have power steering fluid leaking from the reservoir cap of my 407SW, two mechanics have not been able to sort it. When I remove the cap the fluid looks frothy. Any thoughts please, would be much appreciated. Read more

I have a 2011 titanium 1.6tdci. One day in the summer, I was washing my car had the music on for 15 minutes, nothing else running, and when I went in the car to move it, I had a message come up on the screen, amber light with a picture of a battery. Next to it read "low battery indicator see manual". For the past three months, I have had no messages, but the auto start stop has failed to work on the car. Today, I sat in the car with the radio on for 20 minutes, radio turned off, turned it back on only to turn off within 3 minutes, put the ignition on, same message appeared with the battery picture again. Should I get this message?? None of my other cars have I had this problem, even with the radio on for hours sometimes. I do also understand that the battery only charges when needed or should it charge the battery all the time?? Checked the indicator on the battery itself and the indicator is green. Anyone have any ideas or should I get the car checked out?? I have also looked in the manual, but nothing in there to help me.

Thank you for the message. Spoke to my mechanic instead today. Never spoke to ford as I want to get the battery checked first. Got to contact him again Monday morning and he will tell me whether he can look at the end of the business day so fingers crossed!!! ...

I would say appeal if you exited and turned left. If you turned right, however, there is a sign saying buses and bikes only so pay the thirty quid. If you can't remember, the thirty quid option looks the best one.
