It would be interesting to know what the mpg was when traveling at those speeds. My guess would be 15 to 16 mpg? Read more
Hi, I wondered if anyone could shed any light on why the EML starts to flash sometimes while driving and goes out and may flash again 30 miles later for a few minutes and then go out. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it. Could it be a sensor or maf unit playing up. Car drives as normal and starts well. Thank's for any info. Sparky100. Read more
Hi, just managed to get brake switch off, not the easiers job for a simple operation. Took switch to bits and found burnt contact. Filed contact and cleaned, reassembled and put back. Seems to have done the trick so far. Thank's for your comments, saved me taking to have the codes read for something so simple. Sparky100.
I live in Spain and have a daewoo Matiz which is 11'years old. The engine management warning light gives me the code relevant to a blocked EGR valve, which I have had cleaned but the light is now back on, 3 weeks later.
I have been advised to 'block it off' so that the warning light will not come back on again, clean it again, or fit a new one which is a bit expensive considering the age of the car. I am also told it will do no harm to carry on driving. So, why don't I just carry on running it and get it cleaned just before the next MOT?
Ideas please! Read more
The problem with running it with an EML on is you won't know if another fault crops up.
I'd be tempted to block the EGR....

Ford S-Max
Just brought a SMax today and drove it for 2 hours back home. (Second hand) it didn't skip a beat. Parked up at home and had dinner. After which started up again to 'pop to the shop' and 'stop built fault' came up in the centre dash. I pulled off and came up again along with engine management light (although never said it in centre dash display. Are the two related? Not had it 24hrs and hope it's a simple fix. Read more
Hi, I am just taking delivery of a nearly new Alfa in Etna Black, I gather from a couple of forums that the lacquer on Alfas is bit soft and some winter protection is being recommended. (the car will not be garaged).
Apart from Diamond Bright which is being offered by the dealer before delivery at high price, can the forum recommend a product which I can apply myself or give useful hints and tips. I have a nice cupboard of cleaning and waxing products, but is "protection" something a tad different?
Thanks... Read more
I am a semi-retired Professional Engineer, Registered and Chartered for over 30 years, with well-honed technical skills in circuit and system design in consumer electronics, audio, sensors, telecomms, renewable energy and the automotive industries but I am finding it very hard to land any work in any of these fields - even of a part-time nature. I have registered my 2 page CV with CV-Library and TotalJobs and regularly apply for advertised contract positions but as yet, after 6 months of serious searching, I have only landed two interviews, accepted one job offer on an agreed 3 days per week basis only to be told, after over four weeks of unecessary delays and stalling from HR, that I am no longer required as they have found someone internally to do the work.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can improve my luck and land myself some much needed employment ? Read more
Can this thread get back on topic please?
I see nothing wrong with discussing family history, the NHS or the EU, but that should be on a different thread over in General Discussion. Up until (and including) Manatee's post on Friday, this thread was offering very useful advice to the OP, which could benefit any one of us....
Recommendations please for a used small van (up to £3000). To be used in Scottish Highlands. Medium to light DIY loads. Motorway drives and frequent visits to isolated spots so economy, reliability and serviceability above style. Occasional light off road use for camping site access etc. First self-purchase vehicle in 40 years so go easy on me…

Hi all -much against other drivers recommendations i bought a hyundai i40 to use as a private hire Taxi.
No less than a few thousand miles the car ran into serious problems from pressure plates, clutches, drive shafts, pullies, problems with the electrics, in other words everything that can go wrong has, so much so i had to decommission the car after less than 2.5 years service from new! The dealership has been less than helpful and ontop of the cars misfortunes has stung me with the finance. I told the salesman i only wanted to keep it 3 years tops and hand it back and start again with a new one every 2 and a bit years, he was happy at that and said no problem. However after all my troubles when i said enough is enough i was told the car is on a loan agreement and not hp as originally thought. Im now left with the payments of 2 cars. ... Read more
118k is nothing these days. Ive ran cars close to 200k with very little problems.
I've had problems with the hyundai since i took it out the showroom. Seems that many Taxi drivers that have bought the i40 are having major issues with them. I'll be going back to skoda!...
In July our Mercedes Benz E350 (2011) 25,000 miles went for a service at an authorised dealership. this requires a transmission oil change. Upon driving home the car made a noise under acceleration. The car was returned and after investigation the dealership took responsibility stating the oil was contaminated and they would flush and re do.
This did not repair the car. Subsequently, the car had a transmission replaced. A noise was still heard and traced to a torque converter unit, it was replaced. After one replacement the issue becomes a parts warranty claim with MB UK.
It is now October and the car is going back tomorrow again. 400 miles were achieved this time before a noise within the transmission returned.
I have spoken many times to MBUK who have the worst customer service of any company I have ever used. They take notes give you a reference and say speak to the dealer.
The dealership are following warranty and quality processes by MB UK.
We have a car though since July which has spent more time away from us than with us. the dealer are supplying a car to use however they have proposed a discount of a new car (E Class).
The only reason have a broken Mercedes is because now, the faulty parts from MBUK. The work is free under warranty (Torque convertors and transmissions being replaced) however we cannot even sell or trade in the car elsewhere because it is not safe to do so.
We feel forced to accept the situation and trade it into the dealership and accept the discount off a new car.
However we feel this is forcing us to pay £23,000 for a new replacement when we had a perfectly good car before the service in July. They even want us to pay for new road tax, new delivery, licence transfer costs, we will need a to start a new service plan etc..
Any thoughts please? Read more
Totally beyond me why you have PX'd the car against another Mercedes (who you are clearly unhappy with) with the intension of trading in the new car in 2 years time against another brand.
Why did you not trade it in against another brand now once Mercedes have fixed it....

How many mpg did they get?
