Alfa Romeo Giulietta - Paint protection for the winter - guygamps

Hi, I am just taking delivery of a nearly new Alfa in Etna Black, I gather from a couple of forums that the lacquer on Alfas is bit soft and some winter protection is being recommended. (the car will not be garaged).

Apart from Diamond Bright which is being offered by the dealer before delivery at high price, can the forum recommend a product which I can apply myself or give useful hints and tips. I have a nice cupboard of cleaning and waxing products, but is "protection" something a tad different?
