Citroën Berlingo 2.0 HDi 5d? - Best Small Used Van under 3K - Tyacyaes
Recommendations please for a used small van (up to £3000). To be used in Scottish Highlands. Medium to light DIY loads. Motorway drives and frequent visits to isolated spots so economy, reliability and serviceability above style. Occasional light off road use for camping site access etc. First self-purchase vehicle in 40 years so go easy on me…

Have you thought about a Ford Connect? Solid build with lots of options.

Berlingo or its Peugeot sibling hard to beat. The 2.0 Hdi 90 is probably best motor too, iirc some early 1.6Hdi models had turbo troubles.

There is a simple solution to prevent the 1.6 turbo problems, ask on berlingo owners forum

The oil pickup pipe filter mesh gets blocked.

I'd get a petrol unless you really need a diesel (>15,000 miles a year isn't it?)

Correct.

The mesh gets clogged and starves the turbo of oil which kills it.

A turbo can survive with a bit of dirt, it can't survive without oil.

The mesh is to fine, very little tolerance.

Only tends to affect engines from 3 years of age regardless of usage.
