Having problem with the auto hold on my golf, when the auto hold is on the car jerks forward, ie not a smooth take off. Had it back to the dealers and they have put the car on diagnostics and there is no problem showing up. Also the tech guy tested a similar model and said it was a characteristic of the car, it only seems to be jerky when on the flat and works ok on a hill, not too sure what to do next other than turn it off as in my opinion it's not operating correctly.
I also don't like the term characteristic of the car just because they cannot find a fault. The car is @5 months old and has done this from new (back to dealer 4 times) any advice from members? Read more

Sounds like the Mk 6 was the same as the Leon wheras the Mk 7 has a different system.

This evening a car was being driven at 38-45 mph on an 'A' road in Suffolk. This speed continued through 30 mph villages. The driver was probably totally oblivious that their action was holding up many other other drivers over several miles. Earlier on there was a VW camper van doing the same thing.

Perhaps this driver should hand in their driving licence. Do other feel this kind of driving is unacceptable and should be eliminated from our roads? Read more

This type of driver is also likely to stay in the same gear (fourth), the same lane (middle!) and with the same level of lighting (sidelights - day or night - throughout the summer, changing to reassuring foglights and main beam the rest of the year). I'd hazard a guess at the same radio station at the same volume. Seasonal variations in weather such as rainfall are likely to be dealt with by switching wipers on at fastest speed, leaving them running a good twenty minutes after the shower has passed.

Having returned from an Italian holiday, I seem to have been a one man speed machine, having incurred several speeding fines when I have had none in the UK for over ten years.

All the fines bar one have appeared on my credit card bill via Hertz, but one has come as a letter from the authorities in Bologna. I was doing 76kmh in a 70kmh zone. What is the legal view of this. If i dont pay, what happens? ... Read more

I think you did the right thing - the constant nagging worry will they or won't they, and what (if anything) will happen next time you go to Italy, for peace of mind it's worth it.

I picked up a speeding ticket in Florida in 1996, I called them to pay with my card but they did not accept cards so I had to send them a US$ cheque (obtained from American Express at Lakeside) ... the next time I visited USA I made sure I had all the details of the payment with me, just in case it had been lost in the post and I was scheduled to be returned home in chains. One less thing to think about....

I've just had my B class serviced and as part the work Mercedes are now applying QR code stickers to fuel flap and B pillar for the Mercedes Rescue system.

In the event of an accident the fire service can scan the QR code and it retrieves all the construction data for the car so they can immediately make it safe by disconnecting battery, identify fuel lines, fuel tank, airbags etc. It also shows where the main structural components are so they can select the best place to use cutting gear.

At the moment they have to refer to printed material which on rarer cars may not be available or it may be out of date. Mercedes have data on all cars from 1990 and the stickers can be applied at dealerships.

its not something I've come across before, but no doubt will be rolled out to other marques.

Modern electric and dual fuel cars contain batteries capable of delivering awesome currents and voltage.

Would you dive into a wreck not knowing if you could be electrocuted?

Hi All, First time poster on the look out for some information in buying a used car. I was looking to buy a used 7- seater car but am on a Budget of upto 5000 GBP and didnt want to go for a car over 6 years old; At this price the only 2 options seem to come up 1. Kia Carens 2. Vauxhall Zafia While i was initially looking at the Zafira and have found a model 2009 Exlusiv 1.6 Petrol thats has 56K miles on it ; recenly i have found a listing for a 2010 Kia Carens Diesel Automatic that run around 30K miles and seems to be an interesting choice As i have never owned a diesel before ; to help make my decision i wanted to get some feedback from experienced folks here as to - Servicing and Manitainence costs for the Kia Diesel Auto vs Zafira Petrol Manual - As the mileage on the Kia is low would that usually give me a trouble free ride as compared to the zafira ? - Any other factors i will need to consider before going for wither of them? My usuage will be light - between 5-8K miles per year and carrying usally a family of 4 (with the the occasional 7 passengers ) and mostly Urban / extra Urban roads.

(Edit - I've added a 7 before 'seater' in line 2 on the assumption that that's what you meant.) Read more

Thanks for all your feedback it was very useful (esp. not giving too much weightage for diesel cars given my low expected mileage)

Hi. When I turn my lights on there is a squeal, usually goes within a minute . . . . took it to a garage and they said the alternator was squealing . . . so got them to put new one on with new belt . . . Unfortunately the noise is still there. The noise does seem to be coming from the alternator area . . . anyone had this problem before? Any ideas would be helpful Read more

I don't see how a headlight automatic adjuster can make a noise that would ever resemble a belt squeal???

Hi

I owned my Ka from new then traded it in to Ford who sold it to an auction. I recently saw that it was written off......but it says previous owners 1 (me I'm guessing!). Doesn't the Auction house or even Ford get logged as an owner even for a short period of time?

Sorry if this is a dumb question! Read more
