Your calculations do not use real world mpg figures. Whilst it is understandable to try to use official figures as a comparison, whilst diesel vehicles can sometimes approach the official figures, it is very rare for a petrol model to do so. Plus you have ignored the higher residual values of diesel cars. Read more
I'd like to see comparisons at 3 years old, where a lot of used cars are bought. The calculations for the second-hand buyer could be very different. Read more
Due to the diesel gate my new car is a petrol it now puts out 25% more Co2 than the equivalent diesel I was going to buy. So global warming here we come.
Also recently on the news an article on wood burning stoves by scientists showed that one wood burning stove produced as many particles as 1000 cars.
Finally where are we going to get all the electricity to run millions of cars, we need more nuclear power stations. Also the price of electricity will it be going up or down, no need to answer that.
In America the ratio of petrol to diesel cars is very low so what is causing the pollution in major cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles.
A few points.

I was in Dusseldorf for 16 hours and had to drive about 110 kilometres to the Dutch border. I had ordered the smallest car and was given this DS3. I really liked it but had two complaints, one comment and one question?
Complaints. ... a small boot with literally a letter box type hole to get your stuff into. Very compromised and is swiftly followed by very poor rear vision when the roof is open.... Read more
The Front Pagid disc's that were fitted to my car 4,000 miles ago have warped, 90% of my driving is in the city. The VW/Audi specialist that are renewing the brakes have told me that they will be fitting Jurid pads and disc's.
I've searched online to see if they are any good and have found there website and that Jurid is a Honeywell company but have not found many forums talking about Jurid and if there any good. Majority of the search results make reference to Pagid.... Read more
I have used Jurid brakes - but not in about the last 30 years.

My Mondeo has deceloped a weird intermittent fault..initially there were occasions when the airbag light came on and stayed on. No flashing, just stayed on. After a while I worked out that when I started the car, if there was a delay in the blowers coming on, the airbag light would stay illuminated.
More recently it has escalated, in that the speedo, rev counter and odometer also stop working if the airbag light is on. In one instance it was around 6 miles of driving before the blowers came back on and it started working normally.
It's still intermittent - it happened this morning once, but not for the last 3 days - anyone know what this is? Read more
Not only a bad connection but more than likely a bad earth connection as it's affecting so many items. Look for somewhere damp as this can cause electrolysis on the earth (usually seen as a white deposit) as most connections are aluminium.
Has anybody else had any problems with their astra starting when the weather is hot or cold? My car struggles to start when its very hot or very cold and something seems to be draining the battery life as I need to replace the battery every year. I have taken it to the garage a couple of times including the vauxhall dealer garage to have checked over and they cannot find anything wrong even when I have had a diaganosis test done. Once I replace the battery I have no problems at all for about 5 months then the starting problem starts again. Apart from changing the car I dont know what else to do. Any suggestions? Read more
As this is a diesel,it is important that the correct spec battery is fitted, and also a good quality make.I would suggest get the alternator/charging system tested properly.
a few months back the starter was clicking and eventually starting - anyway when I had a look the battery terminal connector had a crack in it. changed it , put another heavy duty marine type on and all was well again.
Lately it started doing it again so I take all the connections off the battery, clean them up, tighten up really tight and it's fine again - for about 10 days then it starts doing it again, one click and then starts ok.... Read more
I would second that. Scrape round the inside of the connectors until they are shiny and the battery posts then put some grease on the terminals before you reassemble it.

why not compare it to a 520d SE? surely that would make more sense... if you're trying to compare like for like?
