After a lot of problems experienced with a 1 owner 8 month old skoda superb purchased from a main dealer, the car was eventually returned last week. I had a number of serious issues including the pdi inspection which I believe was never carried out. The car was supplied to me with a damaged wheel bearing noisy at motor way speed as well as a buckled wheel and the tyres listed on the pdi inspection did not all match what were actually on the car. All pretty shocking I believe, all the more so as the car was purchased to transport my 8 day old baby.

A number of other problems manifested including electrical, trim & culminating in a theft from the vehicle during its 1st service. In frustration the car was returned and my money refunded. ... Read more

He is an idiot because of his 'how dare you film me' attitude and trying to hide. Its ok for him to hide in a van pointing cameras at everyone but not soon keen on the other way around. And besides, what a stupid position to park the cash van - right in the road so people have to drive around it.

If you are at work doing your job would you want some bloke to come along and film you?...

I drive around 40k miles per year and always try and buy older low mileage cars to keep the costs down, I only generally have them a year or so before changing. I have put a deposit down on a 2009 ford focus 2.0ltr TDI which has only 14k miles on the clock. It is ex mobility with a full service history.

I have just noticed it is the dpf model and based on the various info I have now seen on the internet I am Worried that because of the age of the vehicle (5 years) and the low mileage the dpf could be at risk of future problems. I will be using for long journeys at speed but can anyone advise if they think its history of low miles means it is a risk that would be silly to take. I would rather lose the deposit than buy a future problem.... Read more

Thanks for all the advice. As the car has a full dealer history and the fact that I will be doing motorway driving a lot I think its worth a punt. Many thanks

Sorry this is the usual thread about which car. I have done alittle research and also test driven both cars ( albeit new models)

My budget was originally 6k/7k but I have waited alittle longer and is set at 10k max... Read more

If you are considering an automatic gearbox then be aware that the 5008 is not, it is an automated clutch which is an awful drive from experience. Also agree with the above comments and unless you are doing high mileage would suggest a petrol engine would be best long term.

I am interested to hear roomers views on 'badge snobbery' and which makes are regarded as being owned by 'badge snobs'. I don't care what car someone buys and we all have our reasons for choosing a particular make without having to justify our choice. Read more

Japanese cars are perhaps the most underrated, although Nissan is now part French, so down in my estimation.

So it's more about perception that actual facts? Mazda up until recenty was part owned by Ford. Would that make them less good then?

No, I heard that the quality of Nissan had been hit by the French influence, which is why I think less of them. Surveys for the new Micra compared to the older Japanese ones support that view.

I have received a request for information to identify the driver of my vehicle. It was alleged that I was using a hand held mobile phone at the time of the incident. I have no recollection of using my mobile at the time. I have been asked to supply my data which I will do but there has been no proof supplied other than the letter requesting my identity. What proof is needed? Can I challenge any proof supplied? Do they need to provide any proof or is it a case of guilty until proved innocent? I will be requesting any data regarding any calls received from my mobile network. Read more

Does the OP habitually, or ever, use their mobile 'phone when driving?

If so, then I think they've no defence.

I think I have owned this car to long now as I am having lots of niggley faults. I have owned the car from new ,97,000 miles. the latest fault came out the blue. on starting the car no warning light as you would expect. after a few moments the engine glow plug waring light starts to flash. if I then apply the brakes even though I am stationary no other light comes on, but when I release the brakes the esp and abs warning lights come on. If I drive everything works perfectly and engine performs well and brakes are perfect then the red brake warning lights and bleeps although everthing works ok. when I first start the car the diagnostic says all OK. I have checked all plugs and sockets around the abs system all looks ok. I have used a CAN OBD II diagnostic tool that plugs in but this comes up no codes I must assume from this that no fault is occurring . If this is an engine management system fault I think it could now cost more than the car is worth.

Pity really as the car is in immaculate condition. has anyone any idea which way I should go.I will appreciate any comments. Read more

Thanks for the feedback - it helps everyone and increases the knowledge base.

The 1.9PD is a gem of an engine - if it suits your job, look after it and keep it until it dies. At < 100k miles, yours is in its prime. You may well find the later VAG diesel engines lack the performance/economy balance of the engine you have. ...

Hi,
I purchased a van from a fleet hire company, a van that had been leased out but was now at the end of it's lease period, and became available for sale.
When I agreed to purchase it, I asked the salesman about a warranty, and he told me that a 12 month warranty was available at a cost of £200, but said "you won't need it.
I paid the deposit and arranged to collect the vehicle and pay the balance a few days later by which time it would be fully serviced and would have a full 12 months mot.
Before I did that however, I checked the advert on ebay (of which I have print outs), in that advert it states that " Unlike a normal dealer, we have serviced and maintained these vehicles throughout their time with us and believe that this provides a much better example of used vehicle with genuine mileage and history. All vehicles are supplied with a service and 12 months MOT plus a comprehensive warranty for 12 months".
Upon my return to the dealer, I pointed this out to the salesman, who seemed surprised, and said he would need to speak to his boss. I said fine and completed the sale.
I have not had the opportunity to visit the premises since and have received no contact from the company.
Apart from that written commitment,I am under the impression that any motor dealer is legally obliged to give a warranty of at least 30 days.
I purchased the vehicle on the 21st of July 2014, therefore that warranty is in force until the 20th August 2014.
Yesterday the 16th August upon my return from Scotland to the North East, the vehicle started making an horredous clanking and banging noise from the engine. Obviously I was not going to continue driving it,so called my breakdown company, who when they arrived, seemed to think it may be an injection problem or possibly the timing chain (although to be honest he seemed a bit vague).
I got him to trailer me home and will be visiting the selling garage tomorrow.
I would be grateful for any advice or comments from other members, as to my rights regarding the warranty.
Thanks

suggest you look at the Peugeot 508 estate auto- there is a 2l and a 2.2 l version- both well proven engines and gearbox ( as also used by Ford and others)
You will get a newish one for that sort of money.
