My friend is convinced she needs to put Super Unleaded in her 1988/9 (G) VW Golf Mk2 Match. She thinks this is because leaded petrol is no longer available and that somehow 'super unleaded' is the only alternative. I cannot convince her she is wasting money and time (looking for a super u/l pump) by not using ordinary unleaded petrol. Am I correct for this age of car? (I am not absolutely certain if that age of Golf had hardened valve seats) Read more
First point, G is 89/90, by this time all Golfs ran unleaded with no mods needed. From memory all Golfs imported after 1987 would run on unleaded. My first Golf which was an 86 did need leaded fuel.
Ordinary Golfs like the Match of this age will run quite happily on 95 octane fuel, in fact they will also run on 91 Octane with a slight loss of performance, something you will never encounter since its never been available in the UK. If you put super unleaded in the only it will do no good whatsoever but other than harming your friends wallett....

I really want to know what the normal cost for fitting two new front shocks including new retainers.
I live in North London so I know the cost is going to be more than in Sunderland or S. Wales.... Read more
Way too much for just front end.
If your front shock are worn it is likely your rears are too. I'd suggest replacement of all four. Worn rears with new fronts could seriously destabilise the car in tricky condition.
Hi, I have got my toyota yaris hybrid plate 2012 a couple of months ago. Every morning when I started my car to go to work, there is always a harsh sound from the brake when I lifted my foot from it as if the car is trying so hard to move. This only happens in the morning generally when it hasn't been driven for many hours or left overnight. A couple of times , it actually didn't move on the first time I started my car. I had to restart it again and gave it sometime before it actually moved and creating the sound. I don't know if this is actually normal for hybrid car? It feels like the car needs a warm up before going off the road. I spoke to a couple of people with auris hybrid but was told didn't experience similar problem but toyota told me this is normal. I am just wondering if this is normal or anything I could do at all? Many thanks.

A Toyota garage refusing? Many people on here claim they're the best thing since sliced bread.
This vehicle runs well and has only done 24,000 miles. It has developed a bad vibration, transmitted from the engine, on the left half of the dashboard, noticeable at city driving speeds. Curiously, dropping down the glove box cover lessens the noise! Clearly the resonant frequency of the dashboard is altered by doing this. The cover and attachment are both firm. As it is not safe to drive with it open, what remedy could I try as a permanent fix? Thank you. Read more
I'm not familier with the engine mounting arrangement for your car but the PSA's have an engine stabiliser mounted on the right hand side at the top of the engine, failure of the rubbers on these give a similar effect.
Have a look at the engine in the area nearest to where the vibration is occuring and see if there is a mounting there or something is touching the bulkhead.
I've got an interesting problem here...
I've got Asperger's and with Asperger's comes a lot of phobias, including a phobia of airbags. I get really nervous behind a wheel with an airbag, worried that it may go off in my face.... Read more
If your insurance co is happy with no airbag it is just a case of satisfying the MOT tester.
You could have your original steering wheel replaced but get an auto electrician to removed the airbag actuating wiring....
Best 4 x 4 by far. I've had two and this will probably be my third...
Totally understated and very, very underestimated. Read more
