My daughter lives in Aberdeen, where parking a car is a nightmare. Today she phoned to ask if it's OK if tyres are parked in water. Apparently the only spot she could find meant that one side of the car was parked in a "few inches of water". Just over the bottom of the rims ,when I enquired further. I told her that she should move it after a day or two - but she's scared to move it because of the problem of finding another spot. She only uses the car at weekends because of this nightmare. Hopefully the water will subside if it stops raining for long enough.
What's your opinion of adverse effects of tyre submersion in street water for prolonged periods? Two tyres are 5yr old Bridgestoness, the other are new Vredestein all season tyres. Read more

Possibly a silly question,but here goes?
Got 02 vivaro 1.9 di, had enough of constant oil leak (spend fortunes on different seals), various other probe, body is clean and tidy used for camping, was wondering is it possible to fit a better engine ie a later 1.9 dti? , will this fit my gearbox, or 2.0 ltr engine and box or even 2.5ltr and box, what's a possibility or is getting the original rebuilt best plan? Many thanks for the reply, answered my question, try and get it all sorted or if a rep engine was needed to stick with 1.9di or a long chat with my better half. Again thankyou saves me time.

In the end it came down to the Toureg and the 'baby' 120-series Landcruiser. I was offered a Landcruiser at a decent price so went for that....

Although the general view so far seems to be not to do it at all it might be worth looking at car sharing if you still want to give it a go. The uni has a lift share site - just google Huddersfield University car share - you need to log in so I didn't try your particular journey. I'm in the desert so no rust. This particular car is a base model, nothing fancy at all on it. 144 CID engine, auto trans. This is my sixteenth car, and I don't think I've ever had something so tiny, like a little kid's toy pedal car.
