My first time here so be gentle!

I have a 60-Reg E200 which I bought from a decent garage (but not a MB dealership). The first 2 services were with MB dealerships and the latest (just before I bought it) was with the selling garage (using MB original parts etc.). The car has done 36,000 miles.... Read more

An independent with STAR system will do a check for you. Merecedes forums will advise on a good one near you. May be worth joining a forum and posting your fault as there are independents on there who may assist,

My Kangoo recently suffered a broken cambelt tensioner. Initially there were puffs of white smoke from the exhaust but by the time I slowly covered the half mile to my home there was almost total loss of power with white smoke pouring out of the exhaust and also from under the bonnet. There is obviously some major damage to the engine and I can understand the smoke from the exhaust but where would the smoke be coming from in the engine bay? It looked as if it was coming from the bottom of the engine. Tossing up whether to get the engine fixed or not. Kangoo 10 years old but only covered 50K and in very good condition (other than the main component!). I've been told that if the head is dismantled it is almost certain the injector rail will need replacing too as it's almost impossible to remove and replace without damagine - is this correct? You could try to get an engine from a breakers, but is it worth it because of the age, even if as you say otherwise in good nick?

But Why this............ I slowly covered the half mile to my home there was almost total loss of power with white smoke pouring out of the exhaust and also from under the bonnet....

Sorry, what I meant was I may be grossly underestimating what I'd get for mine! Not looked at values at all yet, no point until nearer the time.

Sound advice about the forum though....

At what point in the current lifecycle will prices start to give? It's now 3 years old but prices are still 80-85% of full price! Will they only start to come down when it is replaced? Most ed4's are still £25k+ and its only £30k new - is there still a waiting list inflating used prices? Read more

LR products do tend to hold onto their value, why i have no idea, a maker with such poor reliability will never be on my shopping list.

If buying new go for the 9 speed ZF, the 6 speed was noted for only returning low 30's mpg....

Hello,

I bought my rover on 31st July for £795. The dealer said it didn't come with a warranty due to the price of the vehicle, it is also a Y-reg but I can't remember if that made a difference and as I had bought my previous cars with no warranty I thought nothing of it but was surprised when I didn't have to pay for the MOT that came with the vehicle.... As has been said, the basic truth is that a 'dealer' can only afford to sell a car at that price if it has cost him next to nothing - which tells you all you need to know about the car. He has to make a margin of profit, if only to give him something in reserve when you take the car back to be fixed.

If you can only afford a few hundred you have to buy privately, which may mean taking along a mate who knows a bit about cars. There won't be any warranty, but if you ask the right questions you should be able to find a half-decent vehicle. If the bodywork and interior look OK, examine all the oily bits carefully.

My car insurance is due to run out on 4th september. I do not wish to renew so am using another company but as i am moving house on 28th august i have reinsured with the new company from this date. i havnt informed my current insurer of the change of address cos every time i change anything on my policy they charge me £25 plus and a cancellation charge will be even more . I hope this isnt illegal - will my current insurance just become void when my address changes - as the car will not be left at the address on that policy after 28th august Read more

The only oddity could occur when the new company wants to see your NCD. This won't be transferable until the old policy expires. It may depend on how well the new one reads the renewal doc to verify the NCD (if they if fact bother to).

Hi all,

This problem turned out to be an injector pump issue. Replaced the pump and its 100% again.

Hi, hope you can help. I have a Ford Focus C-Max 2.0 petrol automatic. i love the car and it is very reliable, though very recently I have noticed temperature gauge playing up. It used to settle after warm up pretty much bng on centre which according to the number was about 90oC. Now it tends to settle on about 70 and stay there a lot. When I pull up at junction etc it will creep up again but then soon after upon moving drop down again. On odd days it will just decide to go to the normal 90 position but following day there is the drop again. Car drives fine and hot air comes out the vents etc. Do you have any suggestions as do not want to start expensive problem solving at a ford garage. thanks guys Read more

I purchased a Toyota Auris around three weeks ago which came with a full dealer service history. The vehicle had just received a full service (book stamped) and a new MOT carried out by the main Toyota Dealer.

Because of the full service history and fresh MOT I was not to concerned about if the vehicle had any mechanical issues. The service and MOT was carried out by the main dealer when they were in possesion of the car, it was a part exchange vehicle.... Read more

With regards to MOT advisories.

Dads car was MOT'd 2 years ago, on the certificate the garage advised that the front tyres were barely legal. I had checked them before the MOT and they were fine, had 3mm left across the whole tyre. Shortly after changed fronts and rears round, the fronts now had 4 mm, the rears 3mm. At last years MOT both front and rears had 3mm and guess what, no advisory. They will be changed before this years MOT, 2 years after the advisory and still legal....
