Displaying tax discs will be a thing of the past within 6 weeks. Starting 1st. October.
I've seen reports in the press and motoring media with the usual Q&As but one hasn't been answered yet. My query is, will you still get a reminder letter to renew, and will you be able to pay via phone as now? Or will it be an email or text from DVLA? Or will the onus be on us to keep tabs on dates/renewel?... Read more

How about adopting the French method? Insurance and MOT stamps displayed in windscreen, no road tax....
I am now suffering the curse of diesal particulates. I am just about to have the garage clear the filter for the third time. The actions recommended in the handbook are not clearing the problem for very long, last time less than a week from it being cleared by the garage. so several questions:
Have VW recognised this problem and come up with some longer term solutions? ... Read more
Dealers seem to be very poor at diagnosing DPF problems. The VAG DPF problems are usually due to a faulty pressure sensor.
Also as far as I understand forced regents aren't particularly good for the DPF.
I suggest searching the VAG forums for a recommended VAG specialist.

Anyone for an "old" new Landcruiser?

Hi I have a 2004 Diesel Xsara Picasso with about 150,000 on the clock. So far it has been extremely reliable, maybe partly because it is used mostly on motorway runs rather than around town. Yesterday I set off to return home after visiting friends, coming onto the motorway I found the gearbox wouldn't go into fifth gear. I was able to drive home in fourth OK and first to fourth and reverse all engage absolutely normally. When I try to engage fifth there is a little bit of a whirring noise and the gear lever simply feels like it doesn't want to go there.
Before I drive it anywhere else and also before I ring a garage I was hoping to get some informed opinion on possible cause. Obviously at this milage if it is a problem internal to the gearbox then I would possibly be better off looking for another car.... Read more
If the gearbox is similar to earlier Citroens you can access 5th gear without removing the gearbox as its outside the main part of the box and you can get to it by removing the cover. I repaired one on a CX many years ago.
I get a grinding noise when setting off in first gear. The noise is intermittent i.e. does not always happen. Seems to be as I release the clutch pedal. Read more

On modern cars the radio can be just a facia with buttons and a slot for the CD. All the clever electronics are then hidden away under the dash.
If its the hidden bits that have failed no point just changing the facia.
Hi, My Mk3 Mondeo 2.0TDCI with 136K on the clock has a squeak when releasing the clutch on changing down the box. Depressing and releasing the pedal repeats the annoying noise! Has anyone any ideas or experienced the same please?
Cheers, Sutton. Read more
It may be completely irrelevant but I get the same squeak on my Escort when the soles of my shoes are wet wether the engine is running or not.
My car will not start and the garage says the fault code is p0088. other forums say this is a common and expensive fault, anybody else had any experence of this. Is it worth fixing or is it cheaper to scrap an eight year old car
Thanks... Read more
