Hi I want to replace the discs and pads on my 59 plate 1.6 diesel. I cannot get the discs off !! I removed the caliper and holder but the discs are stuck solid. I have removed the hub nut bit still no joy. I expected them to basically fall off in my hands. There is a lot of rust around the discs and wondering if I need to take a club hammer to them or do I need to remove the hubs and press them out. Not sure what to do. Read more

Thanks for your message. It seems Toyota only want people to buy the invincible, as its the top of the range. Also what I have noticed, there are alot of almost new invincibles for sale and hardly any icon's. Perhaps this has something to do with the heavuy fuel consumption as you mentioned.

Best way to describe this, is that I have a humming noise coming from inside of my Fiesta (the cab). The noise is very similar to when you have a bearing out on one of your wheels and it’s humming away. This is slightly different though, as it’s only heard when the car is stationary, it will be quiet for a few seconds, then it kicks in.... Read more

Nope, remains the same if the glove box is dropped. Tried putting my ear on the dash board as well to see if i could locate the humming, but nothing definite. It's weird, because when you sit in the car, the humming seems centralised, but definitely the sound that a noisy bearing gives off or where something is spinning but not balanced....

I found a pozidrive screw in the centre of the tread of my, flat, rear tyre on Monday morning. The rare times that I get punctures always seems to be in a holiday period. Lifting the car was relatively easy this time because the car was in a hollow in the driveway at home. (The effort required to lift the car when the scissor jack is fully compressed is dire). The worst thing was lifting the spare wheel into position and engaging the first bolt. My old Wolseley has a boss to rest the wheel on while I twizzle it round to find the studs, it is then easy to push it on and screw on the first wheel-nut. The Subaru is different, it has wheel-bolts and screwed holes and the wheel locator is just a very short shoulder, and once the wheel is on the shoulder it's almost impossible to turn it round until I find the hole to engage the first bolt. Then I've got to find another hole to screw in another bolt, all the while holding the wheel up. For curiousity I weighed the wheel, 17kg.

Shortly I will be in my 80th year. I hope that I can continue to change wheels. Read more

We've had quite a few small Fiats over the years, all with steel wheels. They have two locating pins (also used to hold the discs/drums in place) which make fitting the wheel an easy task. You also only insert the bolt closest to the tyre valve to start with, tighten, then fit the wheel trim, before fitting the other three bolts. Wheel trims don't fall off Fiats. Other bits may!*

*Although not in my personal experience.

Just bought the new Mercedes W205 C Class, from what I understand European law says all new cars must have Tyre Pressure Monitoring System fitted which this car has and it will become in 3 years an MOT fail if not working. So my question is if I fit a set of winter wheels & tyres do I need at present to have TPMS sensors fitted? Read more

Merlin1

Mercedes system does not have sensors in the wheels, it works by monitoring the rolling radius of the wheels.

When you first fit winter tyres the system may throw up an error, but if the tyres are fitted correctly and at the correct pressure TPMS can be reset using the in car system....

Exactly GordonB. IMO All season tyres will be the only ones the OP will ever need unless he's doing some serious off roading in his 2wd Focus etc.

I have used Dunlop Grand Treks and Goodyear Wranglers on my old Nissan Xtrail (4x4) and am now running Toyo Open Country on my 4x4 Qashqai. There are plenty to choose from.. I have also heard good things about Pirelli Scorpions....

I'm not backtracking on the above but if there is any argument with the dealer get personal advice - start with CAB perhaps. I'm not a lawyer or an expert on consumer rights generally, but I know a fair amount about consumer credit.

There's a document here that includes the principles of the right of withrawal from a credit agreement - page 49 of the document/52 of the pdf is the relevant part. Normally it applies when the deal has been paid out to the dealer and you would have to pay the lender the full amount plus a bit of interest to exit the agreement. In your case it hasn't even been paid out so the lender would just cancel it if you have not had delivery - but if you have signed one CONTACT THE LENDER and clarify their position towards you....
