Does anyone have any advice on how to prevent the brake bleed screw on brake calipers from seizing ? Would the use of PTFE tape (plumbers tape) on the threads help or coating the threads with red brake grease?
Any tips would be helpful.... Read more
Copper anti seize paste which is available to buy just about everywhere. Just apply some on the threads and you'll never have a problem. It's also essential to use it on stainless steel threads. It will prevent the threads from 'picking up', which would otherwise result in them being damaged and unusable.
Hello, yesterday whilst driving into work I passed a camera van that was sat on the side of the road, this road is normally 50mph but is currently being resurfaced. I was doing roughly 30mph coming round the corner, panic'd slightly at seeing the van and slowed down to 20mph that is marked at the start of the rough road by a 'max speed 20mph sign'.
However coming the other way were cars doing well over 30/40mph... ... Read more
If the lower speed limit sign was a round sign with red border then this is mandatory. it has to be backed up by a local traffic order.
Most speed limits posted on roadworks are not of this type and are advisory so you cannot be prosecuted for exceeding this. You could be reported for driving without due care and attention if you drove an an inappropriate speed. For this it would have to be proved that your standard of driving fell well below that of a compentent driver
Hello John,
I was involved in a car accident while my car was parked at supermarket I was not in the car, and when I got out from the supermarket I noticed damage to my car, a woman came from behind me saying it was me! We exchanged insurance policy details and got on our way. After I contacted my insurance company my policy was comprehensive and included curtesy car and protected no claim bonus. This was my first no fault claim in 6 years! I was pretty much shafted to call this number, the insurance forwarded my details to. They said if i want my no claim affected I must go this way, I asked about a curtesy car and they told me when I call this number they will arrange a replacement car for me.
As it turns out it was this accident management firm I didn't know at the time who these guys were I believed part of my insurance company? Apparently I signed myself to the devil. Yes they arranged a replacement car while the repairs were being done and I returned the car the same day my car was returned to me. The car wasn't of higher value or anything. There was no problem however now this firm hired another company that is to recover the cost for the hire car as the faulty party's company is refusing to pay! Now I received a letter where they want my bank statements etc. and obviously I am not happy about it as they are to be going through my financial affairs. I feel this is terrible to treat innocent motorist like this. I didn't know i should have hired my own car I mean why should I? I was insured and so obviously in no fault! Now they are telling me my insurance company is out of the picture? They are saying if I don't cooperate I may be liable for the costs? This amounts to extortion! Can you tell me what are my options please? I wish this nightmare ends soon! Read more
It's being resolved as we speak.
I just wanted to warn people not to enter into any of these contracts....
From the side view these will be unmistakable.

Looks like a cross between a new Mondeo and a Merc saloon car, not sure which one as I don't really follow MB's beyond looking at the badge
My Mileage is about to increase from around 10k a year to around 18k.
At the moment I drive a 10 year old 2.0l petrol mazda 3 and on a long motorway drive I get around 38mpg @ 80mph yet my friends and colleagues that have a German diesel of similar capacity seem to get 50-55mpg.... Read more
I don't mind the civic though for some reason - it doesn't look like a conventional boring hatchback such as the focus or golf
hi i have a zafira 06 plate, went to unlock it yesterday and it unlocked fine with the key but was quiet. After that it all started to go wrong. It keeps blowing fuse 38 in the boot and fuse 10 under the bonnet. Sometimes it will lock the front passenger door and the driverside rear door, also the boot and the fuel cap. Sometime it wont lock any of them, sometimes it will only lock the boot and fuel cap. Even if you lock the doors manually it might not open from the inside. Any help appreciated. Read more
Check the wiring from the B post to both rear doors. Is is very common for the wiring to fracture and short out where it runs through the rubber boot to the door.hth
HI,
I am new to the forum. I purchased a used Kia Ceed in 2010 and at the time I was told it was part of the approved used programme where the car would be given a 7 year warranty. Great - so i thought.... Read more
7 year warranty expires next month
No it doesn't. By your own admission "All the servicing was fine but the last service was carried out 2 months later than the 12 month schedule and i did about 3k miles more than what the schedule stated." thus the 7 year warranty ended 2 months and 3000 miles before your last service....

Black smoke is either too much fuel being injected or not enough air (oxygen) to complete combustion.
The EGR valve could be allowing too much "dirty" air that has little oxygen in it back into the intake reducing it's efficiency. The air filter if clogged with dirt will also reduce air flow as will kinked / collapsed intake air hoses. ...
