my son has had his car nearly 4 months(bought secondhand from a peaugot dealer with finance) and has had so many problems..the day we picked it up we found the bumper to be split(ok when we inspected it) this was done by the garage hitting the kerb on forecourt..this took 2-3 weeks to rectify.

the fuel sensor was replaced at 2- 3 weeks..car kept cutting out... Read more

Because it was the original poster who quite rightly complained. Thunderbird's post was both offensive and unhelpful: all he could offer as advice was 'go to a propper (sic) garage'.

We can of course mention Halfords but not to insult them - not for the first time, I recommend that Thuinderbird reads the sticky thread about naming and shaming....

Question Any - Exhausts
Cris_on_the_gas

Have I been lucky but can't remember having to change an exhaust on a car recently whereas a few years back this seemed to be a regular occurance.

Has design improved or do modern fuels not corrode as much ? Read more

Diesels usually don't corrode their exhausts, cos the inside gets all coated in soot. I've never replaced one anyhow.

Maybe that will change if a DPF stops the soot reaching the back box ?

First off thanks to all who responded to my post regarding the saga of the coolant loss on my wife's Peugeot 207. The garage reckoned it was a faulty temperature sensor which they changed. We now wait to see if they have in fact fixed it. However we have both lost faith in the car and my wife wants to go back to diesel power. We're looking at a 12 to 18 month old Fiesta, questions are, what's the difference between the 1.5 and 1.6 units (other then 100cc) and which ones best to go for and why? Read more

Been offered a nice one owner example of this pickup for £1800 with 36K on the clock.

Really tempted to risk buying it against all the warnings on this site.... Read more

Here's hoping the OP does come back on to tell whether they've bought or not.

If they don't, then if they post the details or how to find the details on here, then I'm pretty certain that someone on here would be highly interested, if it's not a huge distance away....

I looked into a similar situation a while ago. Some hire car companies do not see it as an issue, apart from an extra charge in case of recovery. Have a look at companies like Hertz which include continental use on their web site.

Are there any major concerns about refitting this door mirror as it looks OK on you tube but to be fair I've never done this type work before but it looks like common sense will pravowl.think that's how you spell the P - word.

My car BMW was booked in for a check up due to a rattleing noise. After the diagnostic check received a call from the servie advisor to inform the that they had found the issue with my car, the belt tensioner needed replacement and belt needed to be adjusted. All was put down to due to general wear and tear (describing it as worn out). I authorised the job to be carried out and I collected my car later on the day.

The moment I came to the workshop to collect my car and I was about to drive of I notice that the noise was still present and inform the advisor of the matter. He recommended taking the car with my as it was very likely that the belt and the new tensioner were still coming together. I went away for the weekend and mentioned that I would call back if the noise was still there by Monday.... Read more

I'd definately be looking for another garage.

Up to a point it can be hard deciding which tensioner or belt is causing a problem, usually diagnosed by removing the belt and running the engine to confirm....

I have just received a penalty notice for driving in a bus lane. This was in Colchester. We were in the bus lane for approx 20 seconds. OUr satnav told us to turn right into this road, and there was no sign whatsoever to say that it was buses only and no right turn for private vehicles. As soon as we realised, we did a U-turn (luckily, the road was virtually empty at the time!) and got out of there. I have paid the fine, because 'lack of signage' seems not to be considered a valid ground for challenging a bus lane fine, according to the paperwork sent out by Essex County Council.

Has anyone had any success challenging a bus lane fine on grounds of poor/ non-existent signage?... Read more

cockle {P}

About 30000 drivers were reimbursed by Essex County Council for incorrectly issued bus lane fines due to poor signage in Colchester last year.

This was due to a major muck up of town centre traffic schemes between town and county councils where the town council introduced a scheme which the county authority overuled after a week or two. The town council then claimed poverty and just went round with some grey paint painting out signs but leaving the confusing road markings. In the mentime the County carried on enforcing the lanes......They were supposed to have sorted out all the signage back in January but they may have missed something.....Give Colchester Bus Lane fines a Google and you'll find a wealth of info....
