Warms up to 90 deg as normal and stays there for a few miles, then temp starts to creep up. Can be brought back down to 90 having the heater on full blast. Cooling fans not cutting in because the radiator is cold, but the top hose to the radiator is hot. New water pump 6 months ago. Any ideas welcome. Read more

Has anyone successfully cured a problem with sticking valves on this engine or any other? My car starts fine every time, but if it's started from cold and then driven immediately it will start to misfire about a minute later. The harder I try to drive it the more severe the problem becomes, until after a few minutes it'll gradually clear and then run perfectly fine again. Sometimes the fault code P0300, random multiple misfire will be generated. However, if I start it from cold and allow it to idle for three or four minutes before driving away the fault will generally not occur.

I flushed the engine with Forte Advanced Motor Flush and changed the oil and filter for Mobil 1 fully synthetic 5w30. This did not cure the problem. Although I can live with it and I know how to avoid it, I would be interested to know if anyone has cured it without removing the cylinder head and replacing the valves, which I don't really want to do.
Thanks in advance. Read more

If this engine is similar to the Vauxhall Corsa / Astra one fitted in the previous models, the way Vauxhall technical said to effect the cure in the first instance was to add a flush to the original oil when hot and then drive in second or third gear and hold it on the rev limiter for a couple of minutes depending on the severity of the stickiness, (Italian tune up style). Then the oil/filter got replaced.

If that didn't cure it, the next stage was head off, exhaust valves cleaned and de carbonised (not replaced) and the exhaust valve guides were reamed out gently with a tool supplied by Vauxhall (SST)....

Clutch failure occurred whilst gear changing. Managed to drive 5 miles home in second. Parked outside garage. Restarted 30minutes later and all was well. Car has done about 17K miles only. Clutch was renewed 4K miles ago. Car driven only by experienced drivers who have never had a similar problem before. No brake fluid shortage and fluid was renewed 3 years ago. Am having fluid renewed again now, even though things appear to be normal 4 days later. Any other comments welcomed. Read more

Apologies. Should have previewed - for GB Luba read GB lubrication - I assume that like all other gearboxes it has its own oil reservoir (different spec to engine oil for different lubrication duty). Correct? So where is the fill point so I can check that all is OK there ? ( even though I have not seen signs of leakage in the garage. Do not expect low lub oil level but it is worth a look).

I have noticed that my Vectra is occassionally emitting blue smoke and the MPG drops severely. What is happening. 57 plate, less than 80k miles.

Any suggestions? Will be taking it to a garage but don't want to get fleeced.... Read more

You need to find out for sure if it had a DPF fitted originally. Not all Diesel cars of this era have them

Would think a Vauxhall dealer could advise, or It may also be noted on the V5....

Try using K-seal first, then see how it pans out before spending any real money out on the car.

Hi. With my brothers permission, I borrowed his car as mine was at the mechanics, and he was going on holiday. Travelled to see family last night, and the car has been stolen overnight. I drive his car via TP insurance of my policy, so I'm not named on his and my insurance doesn't cover theft of any other car. Will his insurance still pay out on the theft? I have reported the theft, got a CR number etc. ironically, one of the family members I was visiting is a police officer. On night shifts :0/ TIA. Read more

I agree with that. Your brothers policy covers theft, the fact you were the last to actualy drive it shouldnt have any bearing on this......unless there is something buried in the T&Cs.

I can find plenty of stats about British made cars, but can you advise the top 10 cars that have the highest percentage value which benefits the British economy.
For example. A Nissan Qashqai is designed and built in Sunderland, but has certain components made in Japan / France. A Saab may be manufactured in Sweden but the Company will have a salesforce in the UK which might make up say 10% of the total cost of the car. The car that will come top will be 100% designed, manufactured, tested, sold (taxed) and all parts manufactured in Britain. Does such a car exist? If not what is the highest percentage you can get. I think the real problem is where does the Tax get paid. Since Boots were taken over by a group based in Switzerland they now pay £94 million less tax into this country! That must also apply to Indian/Chinese/et al. Thats a lot of NHS/ Pension bills that cant be paid by the government. Being taken over by foreign companies is not good for us, only for fat cats!
