If the filter was leaking there would traces of oil everywhere and there would be tell tale signs of it underneath the engine when it was standing.

Last week my year old A 1 1.6 TDI was running a bit lumpy on start up but eventually got going. I drove for about 25 miles before the car could not idle at traffic lights and stalled. I could not get thye car restarted and so called out Audi Assist. They checked the car and also were stumped as there were no fault codes and the system fuel pressure indicated no problems on diagnostics. The car was towed to Lomond Audi in Glasgow who carried out further investigations for a couple of days. They said that the car appeared all OK and even the EGR was fine. They were stumped and contacted the technical experts at Audi Technical advice centre. They decided to change all Injectors!!!!! Not sure why but a stab in the dark maybe. The car did start for them but is running really rough!!! They are now carrying out further tests to see if they can nail the fault. Any suggestions would be welcome as even Audi themselves are baffled by it. Read more

I suppose contaminated / incorrect fuel has been ruled out ?

I've seen quite a few diesel's that have had petrol in them over the years and the symptoms sound the same : poor starting, roughness, idling issues etc. ...

My wife bought a Honda CR-V in September. 09 2 owners 61,000miles. It has now strted not starting when the temperature is over 22' outside. The RAC said it might be the fuel pump. The garage who supplied the car have now quoted over £2,000 for a new fuel pump and injectors. Is this a known fault and any ideas, please?

Of course you could take it to a Honda dealer who might know straight away what the problem is rather than using guesswork.

Edit - I have just checked some information and your symptoms are indicating a failed or failing fuel rail overpressure valve....

Just wanted to say SPOT-ON!! The Alternator was replaced and all is fine again.

The new alternator looks a little different to the old one, but the old one had a strange white corrosion all over it, this one looks like a monster. I have the kick-ass 150amp alternator, so it looks like it could power a small country at the moment :/...

Hi I have taken my Fiat 500 into a garage today as the engine light and ECU warning light have been showing the past week but the car has been driving fine. They have done a diagnostic check and found codes P1220 and C1221 which relate to the 'throttle position sensor' and 'intermittant throttle issue'. They said they need time to check in the bonnet so have rebooked the car back in for 2 days time. I just want to get a heads up if possible on what the problem COULD be and how costly it might be as I am a tight budget! I would be grateful for any help or suggestions to keep costs down so I can go in on Friday prepared and as a young girl on my own I am obviously worried about being ripped off for more than necessary!

My wife's 207 CC (2008, 1.6 VTi) has developed a fault with the MFD. Basically, it is now a "Singlefunction Display". It can either glow a dull orange, or not. It doesn't display anything. It's clearly getting power, and the radio still works (and you can turn the display on/off using the "Dark" button on the radio).

I have tried disconnecting the radio, and also removing the fuse for the MFD/Trip Computer/Steering Wheel controls, to no avail.... Read more

I'm not convinced about the claimed savings either, i suspect far more fuel (and brake wear) could be saved by allowing the vehicle to overrun to slow down instead of the usual hurtling up to junctions followdd by heavy braking, unecessary stopping due to zero anticipation, then fast acceleration from rest back up to high speed, rinse and repeat.

Exactly GB but, The driving standard your talking about only really comes to those of us who haul heavy loads and don't want tennis elbow from all the excess gear changing....
