I may hopefully be in a position to buy an E class - 350 cdi model. Before getting carried away, do forum members have any views on this car, hopefully from personal experiences. I am looking at a 2012 model and the mileage is around 50,000. Thanks. Read more
My Audi A6 has put a lot of black smoke since I bought it new. retuned to Audi numerous times to be told nothing shows up on the diagnostics, so had to put up with black smoke and approx. 38 mpg. eventually left it at Audi and said do not return it until it's fixed. They eventally returned it having replaced the egr valve. I then had 40mpg. Audi carried out the first MOT but did not give me the exhaust gas analasis, when asked for it they said it would follow. it never did. I then had MOT's carried out away from Audi, each year it just scraped through, now 12 years on with 97000 miles the car just failed latest MOT on exccessive black smoke, I have removed and cleaned the egr valve but still smokes when revved up a bit. the car starts instantly and still performs well with 42 mpg. Any ideas about the smoke. Read more

Getting your leg away? Are we talking about car issues or personal issues?
Must admit we've been lucky with Renaults. My mk2 Clio was faultless for the 4 years I had it. I had a Laguna for 4 years only issue was the elec windows. My sister is on her second Clio with no major issues and a few years back my dad had a mk1 megane which was reliable too.
That said I'm not sure I'd take a chance on the current range, I fear my Renault good luck run may have run out!
I believe the water pump is driven off the auxiliary belt not the cambelt, is this correct? I just had the cambelt changed and asked for the water pump to be changed as well thinking at the time that is was driven off the cambelt. The garage didn't say otherwise and went ahead with the whole job. Read more
Thanks. I got the answer I wanted in spite of all the snarky rubbish. Now what I got to check is the condition of the auxiliary belt, if that goes then no cooling. Every car I've owned the water pump has always run off the cambelt so this is new for me.
I did actually say to the garage that as far as I know the pump is driven off the cambelt so please change that.
I've been looking for a pre reg i10 with low/delivery miles. Dealers just don't appear to be moving on the price. Is it too early to oick up a bargain on a 14 plate? Am I more likely to find better prices in September once the 64 plates are released? Read more

MG 6?
I purchased a bike from a local used dealer within the last three months and it's still under warranty by 2 weeks but yesterday the cooling fan packed up resulting in the engine boiling over
In my mind the garage can fix the cooling fan issue but can't guarantee any long term internal damage has been caused without stripping the engine down which I understand is impractical... Read more
This bike is an FJR 1300 isn't it?. And you posted for advice on an FJR forum on 09-08-2014 and got lots of positive advice. So didn't you like the advice offered and wanted a second opinion?

I have an only tenuously similar car in that it's a 2011 E250 CDi sport auto estate. Just three years old now, had it from new, and it has just reached 100,000 miles.
Nothing has gone wrong with it so far and it feels and looks like it's ready to do the same mileage over again and indeed much more if required. No squeaks or rattles, everything still works as it did when new.
Servicing, at a local MB dealer hasn't been too scary. Prices per service have ranged mainly from £250 - £300 a time with only one being more at a more sobering, nigh on £600. The car "tells" you when it needs a service but mine seems to ask about every 15 or 16 thousand miles so perhaps the servicing costs per mile aren't untoward.
It has only just had its first ever set of front pads and discs and a set of rear pads at 96,000. That was quite expensive I thought at £500 but I suppose if you divide that figure by 96,000 it's not too bad !
Tyres are massive 265/18s on the back and 245/18s on the front and are quite dear at around £200 each but again my experience is that you get 45,000 or more out of both fronts and rears so once again on a cost per mile basis maybe they aren't too steamy.
Easy 50 mpg plus on a run and certainly over 40 just dotting about.
Handles very nicely and even with the 250 Diesel engine has plenty of get up and go. I'd imagine the 350 would be marvellous.
Very comfortable with every toy, bell and whistle I could want attached. Just came back from France last week in one hit of 700 miles in a day without feeling it was an especially long way. It just ate the miles despite being fully laden with family holiday gear and having three mountain bikes on the roof.
Clever things include being able to convert the headlamps to 'continental' dipping from a menu on the dash. Also, 'Main beam assist' which is a gizmo which automatically switches the headlamps from dipped to main beam and various points in between depending on conditions and oncoming traffic. Fab sound system too.
I like it very much.
