Have to mention a friend has owned only Renaults for nearly 20 years. He and his wife wouldn't have anything else. These have been 19s, Meganes and Scenics.

Renaults were fine before 2000 (I had seven in a row from 1980 to 2000, all reliable over high mileages) and after a severe drop in build quality seem to have recovered somewhat since about 2008.

The problem wilth most French cars in the UK is that Brits insist on lots of electronic extras, which tend to be the bits that go wrong. The French themselves seem to know this and (generalising here) buy the more basic models which they run for yewars without trouble.

You should really have no problems with modern electrics on cars, not in this day and age,its usually a problem with certain materials used to make them with, ie cheap and nasty, if they were made better they would last a lot longer and should do!

Probably why they named one the Scenic, you have plenty of time to admire the scenery broken down at side of Motorway ;-)

While that is an interesting view, The Engine wiring loom on the Clio was a big problem and not something that even the French could opt out of.

Renault announces Stop-Stop technology - Loose Chippings

Must admit we've been lucky with Renaults. My mk2 Clio was faultless for the 4 years I had it. I had a Laguna for 4 years only issue was the elec windows. My sister is on her second Clio with no major issues and a few years back my dad had a mk1 megane which was reliable too.

That said I'm not sure I'd take a chance on the current range, I fear my Renault good luck run may have run out!
