Hi Everyone
New to this Forum. I was wondering if anyone had had any problems with diesel fuel from a Morrisons filing station? ... Read more
Over the last few weeks I've been trying to find myself a good used car that will fit the bill for my 600mile/week commute (mostly motorway cruising).
The primary requirements are-... Read more
Whatever you buy 30k miles a year will take a toll. You can't buy a car of this sort of age and price bracket and expect it to take that sort of punishment without needing to spend some money on it at some point. 30k miles a year costs however you try and do it.
The cars you mention are not bad choices although I'd probably go for a S60 rather than a Volvo V40.

Thanks again guys, I suspected as much to be honest, I never had much faith in the relay hypothesis. I will turn my attention to the sensor / drier / pressure switch situations and get back with news.
Currently with the AA but notice a lot of cheaper seemingly good providers such as 'start rescue', 'QDOS', 'Driverguardian'
The only reason i'm thinking of sticking to the AA is because of their 'breakdown repair cover' ... Read more
I have used breakdown cover exactly once in the last ten years... total cost for that cover £750.
This year I have switched to PAYG cover ... £50/callout, £3 to sign up. Assuming my cars achieve the same level of reliability in the next ten years as the previous ten I will save £700....
I'm having a hard time deciding which of the cars below to buy and would appreciate some opinions. I'm a 33 yr old male based in Malta and cover 6k miles annually. I use a/c for 6 months of the year and very rarely have passengers.

The Ceed is only available with the sluggish 1.4 petrol engine here. My dad had the same engine in his i30 and I don't find it responsive enough.
I've suspected for a long time that my central locking/alarm is insecure. Many times I've gone to the car and pressed the unlock button on the key fob only to have the car lock itself. I couldn't be absolutely sure that I'd locked the car. This most often happens in supermarket car parks - embarrassingly - and sometimes at home. After a recent incident where a would be thief opened the car at dead of night and started to root through things I decided to make sure each night at home by checking the car before I go to bed. Last night I checked the car and it was locked ; this morning it wasn't. One of my neighbours must have a door locking code able to work my car doors.
I make a point of putting on the wheel locking crook bar device every time. Read more
I've read previously of cars being stopped and refusing to restart due to interference. The nearest transmitter to us is across the valley, about 2km away. The only problem seems to be the unlocking and that is irregular.
The aspect of tranmitter masts rings a bell. When I had a fleeting problem with the car stopping on the road and restarting after a half hour wait the dealer couldn't find any fault. When I rang into the dealer for the second time the manager got cross (very shirty) and said that the problem wasn't due to electromagnetic interference from mobile phone masts. That same day the car finally stopped completely and the fault was traced to a 'broken' wire - introduced during maintenance a week earlier.
Ok so the wife has a pretty reliable mk2 Renault scenic. It's been Ok for years but as age kicks in its starting to pull some annoying little problems out of the bag.
The child locks in the back are electric and tied to tthe button that stops the rear electric windows from working. The child locks are supposed to nd is engage when you come to a stop (stupidly). This works, however they click sometimes about 6 or 7 times. Sometimes they click away to themselves while the cars on the drive doing nothing. ... Read more
Just to add I've tried disconnecting the switch mentioned above to no avail.
My daughter bought a 2006 Touran in the last month. A light came on the dash came on and remained on with a notice Emmissions Garage. A mechanic cleaned something and it went off. She gave it back to the garage where she bought it for a proper check. After taking delivery again the light came back on again withe the same notice Emmissions Garage. She went to a mechanic who gave her the following.

Again many thanks. We are bringing it back to garage to sort it out. Thank you for taking the time to help.
Not actually true - VED has nothing to do with build dates, it's down to when the car was registered and they will all be after 1 April 1974. Read more
According to the government website "You don’t have to pay vehicle tax on vehicles made before 1 January 1973 (known as ‘historic vehicles’)." That was the old regime. The new regime is a rolling exemption April to April. Always was based on build date, not on first UK registration.
My MD misfuelled his Grand Cherokee (with the MB 320CDI motor), ending up with about a 50/50 mix in the tank. It ran enough to get him 2 miles from the petrol station, but was misfiring sufficiently for him to notice and ask my advice - and he's as mechanically minded as my 80-year-old mum.
