Hello
I have a 2.0 litre petrol 1998 carina with a single point lovato LPG system. When I switch to LPG from Petrol, the car will run on idle briefly, and the car will then stall. When trying to accelerate, it will accelerate to about 2000 rpm or so and then the engine loses power and stalls.... Read more
2.2dci. Oil blockage. Got it in time. New oil filter going a dream but now there's a huge turbo whine. Any suggestions. No power problems and turbo boosting grand but very loud deep whine Read more
Fit a turbocharger core cartridge- not worth messing about with bearings and seals at these prices.
I very nearly just bought a beautiful 58 plate Ford Galaxy Ghia. Never having had a higher end vehicle, I was blown away by the programmable self adjusting seat/mirror thing, the dual zone climate control, the central locked fuel filler, the electric parking brake, the tyre pressure monitoring, etc, etc.
I really wanted to buy it. It had been well looked after, 75k miles and pretty much good as new. But a little pragmatic voice kept telling me all that comfort equipment was just going to fail and cost a fortune to put right. Bang, suddenly you can't adjust the seats. Bang, suddenly you can't open the filler cap. The EPB was the killer actually, if it hadn't been for that I think I would have gone for it.... Read more
Not sure i agree about wanting old cars. They might be repairable, but they also often need repairing. I just want reliable.
I see Pentagon are doing a bran new 1.8 zafira petrol for £8995 (though for me my trade in would only be 500 so it would be 9495). Base model but surely that's a cracking deal if you need an MPV isn't?
If I rent a car from Dusseldorf Airport and wish to drive into Holland
Is there any reason why I can't do this? Read more
I started the thread but did not tell you how i got on. Booked through Avis and collected a nice upgrade Citroën DS3 Cabriolet instead of the cheapest car on the list. Told them i was going into Holland and they were completely fine about it. Lovely little car and made my son's day when i picked him up from the camp.
In Venice we collected what was meant to be a Ford C-Max. Instead it was a Fiat 500 L +. Like the 500 MPW FAMILY they have here but without the third row of seats. I was sceptical about getting all the luggage in, but it all fitted and we were very impressed by the comfort and performance of the car and its diesel engine. We used Hertz and they were fine also.
Bought a 3 month old MX5 from a franchised dealer on 31/12/13, only 65 miles on clock, allegedly a demo car. Every 2 weeks it fails to start and battery is dead. Been in local Mazda dealers for a total of 5 weeks out of the 11 weeks i have owned it, it has had 3 batteries and the latest one has just failed again. Dealer can find no drain on battery, but something is clearly draining it and presenting itself as a faulty cell on the battery. Car is used every day (when it starts) for 10-30 miles, exactly same usage as previous Mini which ran faultlessly for over 8 years with same battery. Garaged and locked with immobiliser on overnight. No lights etc left on or doors open. alternator tested and works fine. Made clear to dealer that they need to do something different to previous times but not convinced they know what to do. Have also advised the selling dealer that it is not fit for purpose. Any advice gratefully received, Thanks in advance.

Dealer has had multimeter on for a fortnight and NO drain found at all. Then suddenly dive bombs and battery is dead, showing a fault code on the battery. The battery has shown fully charged each day for a fortnight, i do not understand why, if there is a drain, it does not gradually lose charge.
So without a drain being indicated, the suggested process of removing fuses to see the change in level of drain will not work....
Hello!
I am looking to buy a new car in the not to distance future. But I am no car expert, and have never bought a new car before. ... Read more
That makes perfect sense, GB, but I think the OP wants a new car for the greater mileage to and from work. I think I would in that situation.
Unless I've missed it, User, you haven't told us what your budget is. But assuming you can afford it, a Fiesta is a very good choice although I've heard that the 1.0 Ecoboost engine is economical only if you drive it gently....
two days to do a service and MOT,utter rubbish. If the car is well maintained it should only take half a day any more than that I would take it some where else Read more
The 'two days' refers to having a MOT test on one day and a service on a different day, re-read the point.
I am seriously considering taking early retirement. I've heard that car insurance can increase significantly when you retire. Can anyone recommend any insurers that have reasonable rates for retired folks? (I am currently with Direct Line).
I escaped at 51 in 2001 and found insurance didn't change at all. Currently £120-something with SAGA for the car and Carole Nash for the bikes.
Added little brother to the car policy so he can take it into town for servicing and it went down £1.60
Heard mentioned " buy an approved" car, what does it mean, and approved by who? Read more
In my experience a main dealer 'approved' warranty purports to cover more things but in reality is as much use as a back street dealer warranty.
I've had to fight/argue/threaten to get items that are covered under an approved warranty with Toyota(gave up), Jaguar(won in the end), Vauxhall (50/50 cost in the end) and various other ones. Ironically when I bought a car from a car supermarket place I didn't expect them to cover a stone punctured air conditioning condensor, but they did as I noticed it within a couple of months of buying the car....
Looking for a low running cost car for son, thinking of low ins group, good mpg, low road tax, considering these, would welcome comments

Best thing to do is have a look on the model sections of the Citroen and Peugeot forums. The Pug 107 suffered with clutch and leak problems in the early models, as has already been posted.
