Some time ago my small local VW dealer had a traditional parts counter with staff who knew what they were talking about. Result Franchise taken away.

Thumbs up for my local Ford dealer - its a big flashy glass showroom with the parts desk at the back but staff are helpful, even ringing through to ask their head mechanic for advice on fitting a part. As for prices, their Ford DOT4 brake fluid is cheaper than Halfords.
My wife passed her driving test today (second attempt) and is pondering whether green 'P' plates are worth having.
Her experience of having 'L' plates is that nobody makes much allowance for learners! Even on her test someone cut her up and people were often overtaking during lessons when she was doing the speed limit. I try to give learners more room and be a little more cautious but I seem to be in the minority.
So if people generally ignore 'L' plates then is it worth having 'P' plates? And if so, then for how long? Any thoughts or experiences? Read more
I believe 'baby on board' signs were first invented so as the emergency services knew to look for a baby in the event of a crash
No idea if that is true or just another urban myth but surely the emergency services look for all occupants rather than first looking for a sticker bought at Skegness....
My drivers door jammed open when fully extended, heard something drop down inside, and had to force it shut. It makes a clonking sound when shutting. Can open enough to get in and out but only just! Read more
I have exactly the same problem on my 2 year old ASX. I replaced the strap for about £22 but the door itself is slightly damaged due to trying to force it to close.Mitsubishi say they have never heard of such a fault and deny any responsibility under warranty. :-(
Hi everyone,

I need to either replace or rebuild the ABS module on my 1995 Jaguar XJS convertible with a 4.0 six cylinder. The module is made by ATE and the Jaguar part number is JLM1475. This module is different from the black sealed models I have seen on the repair sites as it has an aluminum housing that appears to be able to be disassembled easily. Before venturing in I wanted to get information on whether they can be rebuilt, if there is a kit, or if it is better to try and find a new or used one. I appreciate all your help.
Thanks;... Read more
Is this the type with the ecu fitted under the hydraulic pump motor,or a seperate ecu mounted in boot?what problem do you have?
HI guys any opinions would be appreciated here!
Had a bit of a nightmare over last couple of months with this car so much i just want to get rid of it!!
Our new problem is battery light coming on about 30 seconds after start up, no problems starting or signs of low battery etc but just recently we also now have slight smoke coming up from under the bonnet. We do have squeaking noise that has been gradually getting worse and ive been told this is the tensioner?
We have had new silver calcium battery fitted end of last year new alternator new starter motor and dual clutch flywheel fitted. After all this work the engine management light has been on ever since but no other issues until now.
help please Read more
The smoke is probably a result of the belt slipping, if the slipping is bad that might be responsible for the light coming on as well. I would get the tensioner sorted out and fit a new belt as well.
Looks like time to get a satnav, but which one? A Garmin or a Tom Tom? Read more
(free) Here maps on a smart phone works well. We use it when overseas. You down load the maps first, and don't need a permanent data connection. Every so often they are updated.
Cant's speak for Tom Tom, but we have been Garmin users for many years.
I purchased a new Juke from a dealership, it is now 6 months old. Three weeks ago I noticed a kind of 'bubbling' effect on he rim of the console by the gear stick, I contacted the dealer who in turn contacted the warranty dept of Nissan
I had no idea what caused it but virtually accused of spilling something chemical on it, spilling coca cola or dangling an air freshener from the fear stick!!!( this is not an isolated incident)
None of which where accurate as there is rarely a passenger in it and I am the only driver. The paint work on the console is not fit for purpose and how are manufacturers allowed to produce cars with such shoddy material? Read more
The handbrake placement to the left of the centre console is correct for a LHD car with the driver on the left. Nissan obviously couldn't be bothered or the bean counters told them it would cost too much to change it for RHD.
Same for so many other European cars though....
