Hi. Sorry if this has been done before but I can't find anything.

I bought a car on Saturday with the trader advertising it as 31000 miles. On driving it home I realised it was in KM on the odometer.... Read more

It begs the question why a Motability car had a km odometer.

Are they switchable m/km either in a user menu or using dealer/serice options? ...

The car is due for a service in May. But I have noticed the oil level is on the lowest notch as indicated by the stick. I would like to do a top up - and then in May I can get a filter+oil change done together. Just two questions:

Depending on the milage you do, I would get the car serviced now and not bother with the top up.

Need to make some savings on the maintenance costs by replacing the rear brake pads myself. Last time it was done at the dealers who stated that you must take it to them for correct fitting and readjustment of the electronic handbrake. I believe that this was just a ruse so that they can make more money out of me. Has anyone any experience in fitting these brake pads? If so Can it be done outside the dealers workshops and if so how do you readjust the handbrake.? Read more

In the absence of Paul replying to you, i'll tell you how I would go about it based on the VW system which seems to be similar to hyundai.

Hi.
Hoping someone could advise on possible legal standing.
Sold a car, changed details with DVLA (letter acknowledged) but held insurance to put on to next car. Ended up forgetting about it. several months later someone else has had an accident in that car, and my insurance company are saying that the claim will go against me and I will have to pay because I never cancelled the policy.

My argument is that the policy was void as I was no longer the owner as stated in the insurance documents and the car was not being driven by myself or by someone with my permission which is also a requirement as stated in the documents.

The claim is from the highways agency as they say they have photos of the car causing damage.

I am aware I should have cancelled the policy but genuinely forgot after initial delay with intent to replace that car (i have many policies running and dont track them very well).

I would like to contest my liability for that claim but do not know where I stand legally at the moment.

Any help or suggestion gratefully received. Read more

Just to say, on behalf of the Backroom, a big thank you to dacouch for the continuing informed advice on insurance issues. You clearly have a lot of knowledge / experience in an area which to most of us is a minefield.

Anyone got any info or feedback on a VW Tiguan clutch. We bought a three year old Tiguan from a main dealer 18 months ago and the clutch has gone. £1600 they want for the repair. 35000 miles when we bought it, 45000 now. Not a happy bunny.

We took it back to them when it was within warranty and said we thought that the clutch was going. They said the noise was being made by a failing aircon unit and replaced it FOC. That was in July, now 8 months later it has failed.... Read more

Absolutely. A customer of mine was told his car needed a new MAF at £140 plus fitting plus VAT. To add insult to injury they charged the full hour labour rate when its a ten minute job.

It turned out to be a broken air filter box at the back of the engine letting in too much air....

Driving home had no problems, filled up at tescos as usual. Then started to hear a whistle in the engine , but only when I accelerated. Called a mobile mechanic who I have used once before. He said he thought it was the turbo, and took it to two other mechanics for a 2nd and 3rd opinion. They said the turbo needs replacing as well as the sump. £650. He asked if it is serviced regularly. It has been serviced every 10,000 and had been serviced 6 months ago. The oil I use to top it is 5w30. I use kwik fit to service the car. I don't know what sort of oil they use.

Any advice.? I am going to be ringing around for other quotes today

Thanks Read more

The oil I use to top it is 5w30. I use kwik fit to service the car. I don't know what sort of oil they use.

You need to use the correct 5w30 oil in these engines. Kwik Fit (and other similar places) will simply use the cheapest oil they have in stock, may be 5w30, possibly not. Topping up with the corrrect oil will do no harm but will do no good either....

Where would we be without a lexia diagnostic check. Its common fault a diode in the alternator stops switching its of no problem so taking the bulb out is the easiest and cheapest way.

Hello,

I recently bought a brand new Suzuki that I picked up on Friday. Upon inspection, I noticed a small area of rust on the side panel by the headlight which I pointed out to the dealer. The dealer has offered to repair it by sandpapering the rust and touching up the area with a paint repair stick. The car is booked in for tomorrow.... Read more

Whilst Suzuki aren't in brilliant shape, I'd be a whole lot more worried about Mitsubishi.
