I have a persistent issue with an engine management light on Mk1 Skoda vRS. FAult code is generaic P160x one... Car still drives OK. Has been back to dealers 4 times for "repair" at a cost of almost £800 including cooling sensors, water pump. This has still not resolved the issue and its seems I have been paying for replacement of parts rather than a fix.

Any advice? - I have now asked the garage to refund my money spent on these numerous unsuccessful repairs, but am awaiting an answer on this - they have asked to look at the car again, but I have no confidence that the issue will be resolved. Read more

Thanks...despite all the dealer's investigations I suspect you are close to the mark..

Hi there,,
My fiancé has a 2008 1.4sxi vauxhall corsa AUTOMATIC..and of late we have had a slight issue with it,,
A couple of weeks ago we got into our car and turned on and went to put Into gear but felt jammed anyway it adventually went In to gear,, and didn't happen for a while but the last week or so it happens everytime we turn it on and we have to rev it to 1500rpms for about 7-10secs then it goes straight into gear???
But then if I went from P down the D then back up to D then to P again it would get stuck once again and would have to do what we have just done to get it out again,,,

Any idea what this maybe?? Read more

Hi.
Hoping someone could advise on possible legal standing.
Sold a car, changed details with DVLA (letter acknowledged) but held insurance to put on to next car. Ended up forgetting about it. several months later someone else has had an accident in that car, and my insurance company are saying that the claim will go against me and I will have to pay because I never cancelled the policy.

My argument is that the policy was void as I was no longer the owner as stated in the insurance documents and the car was not being driven by myself or by someone with my permission which is also a requirement as stated in the documents.

The claim is from the highways agency as they say they have photos of the car causing damage.

I am aware I should have cancelled the policy but genuinely forgot after initial delay with intent to replace that car (i have many policies running and dont track them very well).

I would like to contest my liability for that claim but do not know where I stand legally at the moment.

Any help or suggestion gratefully received. Read more

It might be worth getting a Lexia diagnostic check done, that can check all the components, including relays.

I have a smart Forfour 1.5 petrol owned since almost new with 95k miles - a great little car. The car recently suffered a failed actuator and stuck in gear while driving. Fixing the car has become a saga at Mercedes Tonbridge, with them overcharging, making errors of diagnosis, and giving back a car with a failed ECU but not accepting responsibility. The letter below tells what happenend, but am I being unreasonable to expect they repair the ECU considering it was fine when I gave it to them.

I would be grateful for advice thanks. Repair could be £1500! ... Read more

Repairs carried out by the repair shop on the Isle of Wight, email something along the lines of Carelect.demon, not cheap but then good work seldom is.

My indy would not appreciate publicity and doesn't need it so i won't name him, he's always snowed under with existing work, he doesn't work on Smarts and with great reluctance on A/B Class....

Speakers never worked with original head unit. Now have a new Alpine unit and they still don't work. Not sure if the grills in the rear door cards are just there for other models which have speakers. I would have thought mine would have speakers as it is the highest spec Focus for the year. It's a 2005 1.6 ghia 5 door. Hopefully someone out there has this model and can confirm if it has rear speakers or not. Read more

The car when it was new had 6 speakers 4 in the front a two in the rear .Remove the radio and measure the resistance of the individual on the iso speaker plug to see if they are working or not.

New C3 Picasso march 2013 with 17" alloys. I needed a full size spare wheel for travelling abroad(Just in case!).
What A CARRY ON!
Apparently Citroen do not have a 17'' Steel wheel for a C3 Picasso(the Alloys were hugely expensive) so I was advised a 16'' wheel would be ok but omitted to tell me that I would need a different tyre to achieve the same diameter as the alloys already fitted(original tyres are Michelin low profile).
After messing about and fitting the wrong tyre initially Kevin at North East Tyre and Exhausts in Silverlink, Wallsend,Newcastle upon Tyne came up trumps and tried 2 sizes against the fitted tyres and eventually fitted a 205/55R16 which resolved the situation.WELL DONE N E TYRES
Another thing I changed when I bought the car was to replace the puncture repair canister with a tichy spare wheel.I don't think filling you tyre with gunk will enable a puncture repair and I would feel safer with a proper tyre, even though its a toy one!

So today I picked up my new 2014 C3 Picasso. I'll never have a new car again so this was really exciting. I didn't want the can of foam so have got the appropriate 'space saver' wheel however there was no towing eye, brace, jack or little wheel nut protector removal tool which is needed to prevent these chrome look (plastic) covers from breaking when removing. I've seen many kits on ebay in the polystyrene holders with all these bits (except the removal tool I've just mentioned) but they are for earlier Picasso models so maybe they won't be the suitable for mine. The jack, brace and towing eye are really important and if my 17' clover wheels can be removed using the same brace as the earlier models then my problem is solved. Are all the jacks the same too? I can't imagine the weight of the car will have changed or the jacking points moved with this latest model. Any advice and help would be very much appreciated.

finally resolved it. A friend and half a can of easy start and now it's running with over 4000 psi at idle on the fuel rail. My bet is the kinked lines from the previous garage bodge job and the dodgy seal on the top o ring on the fuel filter were the root cause of the air lock. Just hope they haven't killed the pump with too many dry attempts at starting!

Thanks for the tips
