Hi,
I recently bought a 2008 basic model of Passat estate and I noticed that it has quite strong vibrations while it is parked when I was waiting to pickup my friend with engine on in a car park. An example will be: the vibration can cause my wife's handbag handle moving forward and backwards. We can clearly feel the vibration once the car is parked for over 30 seconds, but as soon as I start to drive it with any speed, the vibrations disappear. The car drives ok at all gears and speeds without any vibration problem. Does anyone have any idea what is going on with the car? Thanks very much! Read more

VW hold a central record so give their customer services a call and see what they have,
Don't be surprised if the dates do not match exactly as dealers tend to update a bit randomly but it should give you a general idea....
so if all goes to plan I will have a newer car soon. Only one insurance policy so the old one will have to be uninsured - I have off-road space for it. This also means I need to declare SORN on it to avoid trouble - this stuffs up a plan to keep it taxed and buy short-term insurance if anyone is interested.
The old S reg Ford Mondeo starts, stops and runs beautifully, but is scruffy on the outside (rust and a dented door from being reversed into), has only 2 weeks MoT, tyres are coming to the end, may need some more welding and has a list of non-essential things that no longer work on it.... Read more

My 04 mondeo 1.8 duratec has developed a misfire. I have changed the plugs and the ignition coil pack (the coil pack wasn't firing on port 3) and still it has the misfire!!

Hello all. Last week I took delivery of a 6 month old CRV which was dealer owned and immaculate in the showroom. I took delivery in the rain (groan!) and noticed a small 5 inch long 'ding' on the rear offside door as I got out of the car after driving it home. I contacted the dealer immediately who were perfectly ammicable and took the car back while leaving me a loan vehicle.

I own a 2003 Vauxhall Zafira 2.0dti Elegance and I just cant seem to get rid of this black smoke and its really driving me mad now, everything I do just seems to have no effect what so ever!! I paid £185 for a brand new Wahler electronic EGR valve - no effect! I then replaced the EGR control solenoid, £24 - no effect! I have now replaced the Maf sensor for a new Bosch item, £70 - no effect! Its really starting to do my head in now, the expense it is costing me you can tell the missus isn't too happy! I get the dreaded eml light come on for about 20 seconds and then goes out and when I connect to op-com the only code I get is p0400-5 EGR valve insufficient flow, but I cant seem to cure it! It's getting to the point now where I am seriously thinking of getting shut of my bus now because its embarrassing driving it with plumes of black smoke bellowing out the back! For the amount of vibration you are experiencing, I'd think the DMF (dual mass flywheel) is a strong suspect. An engine mount would cause a thud type vibration when you accelerate/decelerate as the engine moves fore/aft. An over run pulley on the alternator is more of a chattering/rattling type noise that rarely transmits into the cabin to the extent you say.
If the DMF is going, sometimes the vibration differs if you pump the clutch pedal up and down whilst stationary in neutral but not always. Try taking up the clutch biting point whilst in gear and listen/feel for any change in the noise for a more accurate diagnosis or take it to a trusted independent garage for a second opinion, but from my experience, it's usually the DMF.
