..,you've just paid for a load of work to your car, let's say cambelt, 4 new tyres, discs and pads, common work that *could* all come along at the same time.
Then the car gets written off on the way home from the garage.... Read more
Hi all,
Hoping you guys can help me out. Ive got a pretty fast coolant leak which seems to be coming form the inlet manifolt gasket. Its on the drivers side at the back of the engine block, just behind the dipstick. I wouldn't mind having a crack at it myself to save a few £ and learn as ive only recently took aninterest in a bit of motoring DIY. Would this be a too big of a job for a novice, would I be better off just paying a mechanic or is it doable?... Read more

Hi all
First post, due to the mess biofuel seems to making of our diesel filters. I only use BP Ultimate or similar, but have been unable to find if there is any biofuel involved after the blanket legislation by HMG. Having been used to treating boat fuel (due to the time it spends in the tank), I was wondering if there is any scope to treat car fuel (if biofuel is an issue) with the same biocide, killing any sludge forming bacteria.... Agreed that regular maintenance is essential. I tend to overservice my cars, although I am wary of keeping old fuel in the tanks if the car is not used for a while (I go overseas occasionally). Trying to find the technical content of fuel is almost impossible, which makes comparing biofuel content difficult. I would hope the premium fuels have the lowest!

Disappointed in 2013 Cooper Countryman (petrol) auto. Changes down far too often in inappropriate circumstances - e.g. slight rises at 70ish on motorways and other situations where using flappy-paddle manual to force upchange is accepted and not overridden by auto. Noisy, fussy, and possibly uneconomical, progress unless constantly working gearchange. Hardly the point of auto, and this is my 5th (2 Volvos, Mercedes and BMW).
Dealer and MINI UK not too interested so in desperation I brimmed tank (always use non-supermarket fuel) from 7/8ths empty with Shell V-Power. Almost immediate improvement to auto behaving close to expectation, far less fussy, smoother, more responsive to driver inputs. At last a pleasure to drive. Is it me, or can V-fuel do this?... Are you using cruise control when this happens?, if so this can happen on some autos, the car immediately goes to full throttle to maintain speed as speed starts to drop and that can trigger unecessary downchanges, i suspect if you drive it with care applying only gentle acceleration in order to maintain or increase speed, then the car will most likely stay in top gear for you.
By the way, is this satans box or a proper TC auto?...
I am looking at buying a second hand Superb. I drive aprox 35k a year. My budget is about 10 - 11k. Has anyone got one and are there any issues? Are the greenline models underpowered? Read more
Nice car, good choice for potential relaibility and importantly your comfort. I'd recommend you get a good VAG independent to look after it and keep it in good order. Thats nearly a cambelt and water pump change every year plus a big service and a couple of oil and filter changes. If possible I'd go for 17" wheels over 18" for the comfort and lower tyre prices.
Hi,
I've got the folowing problem. The car start hard. You have to crank the engine for about 10-15 seconds to start. It does not matter cold or warm. When it start ,runs verywell. No loss of power,no smoke, just fine.Starter works well.I have changed the glow plugs. The glow plug relay works too.The timing is ok too.Compression is 29 bars. After all this checking,i try to start the car pushing. It start straightway.Try it 10 more times. No problem, it starts straightway. It need to turn the wheel a quarter to start.I've put it on diagnostic,no fault codes stored. So i get stuck at that point. Please help Read more
If the seal is broken, then the engine should start same way on starter and pushing. When pushing it start immediately.
Surprised they haven't done an hybrid version - thought Toyota was going to roll out HSD across the range Read more
