Can anyone give me an idea of how much it will cost to replace the fuel pump whch is in the tank? Unfortunately I have a full tank of fuel as the garage insisted they had solved the problem, so I filled up only for me to discover 25 miles later that they hadn't! Read more

About 1 hour labour, plus the cost of the pump, which I would imagine is probably over £100.What is the problem with your one?

Thanks for your reply. Initial problem was the car would lose power and stop. Garage numbeer 1 said it was the crankshaft sensor. Problem returned then they couldn't find a problem but flattened the battery! Had car moved to Vauxhall dealer for "proper" diagnosis. They said it was the battery - replaced - still the initial problem. Then they said it was the fuel pump. They have replaced that and now say it is the fuse box/ecu.

Picked up a 2001 Kangoo van today as a second vehicle.

The previous owner had the ignition barrel changed as the key broke off inside, so there's 2 keys, one button-fob used to start the car and one without a fob to open the doors.... Read more

The immobiliser only stops the engine from starting. If you have no lights or dash/radio ,then the problem is elsewhere.Flat battery or possibly connections to it.hth

Looking to replace the front pads on my A4. I have been disappointed with the performance of the Ferodo SL's I fitted at the last disc change (Bremo).

They have hardly any 'bite' nothing like on my previous 130bhp A4, although I do know that the 100bhp has smaller discs. The fluid was changed about 6 months ago with no improvement apart from the peddle feeling 'tighter'.... Read more

Original VW/Audi pads are usually marked Pagid or Textar which are both part of TMD Friction, of which Mintex is also a brand. Who knows if the products are different or just printed and packaged differently. I have used Mintex and Genuine Audi on my A8 and notice no difference in use. I also used Allied Nippon for a week which were so bad they should be made illegal. The difference was like night and day. Pagid claim to have 200 recipes for pad friction to match all of the OE parc.

Hi, I was just this week in Sri Lanka being driven around in a very recent BMW 5 series with 2.0 diesel engine and stop/start technology. Even as a passenger it drove me mad, going from stationary to moving, every time hearing the diesel start up afresh. A diesel start up is hardly an enticing thing. I know the BMW in question is NOT a hybrid, but I also know that Toyota/Lexus, GM, Honda all have different approaches to their Hybrids.

I once test drove a used Lexus 400h and by memory it pulls away from stationary entirely on electic power, and the petrol kicks in when needed, this would seem to me to be a far better solution. I didn;t buy it because I don;t need something that size (though it was very nice). Due to it's size I dont think I would have got the MPG out of it either that I would expect. (50mpg would be nice).

I looked also at the CT200h, but found the interior was just lifted straight out of the Toyota parts bin (mainly the Carina used by numerous taxi fleets in some of the countries I visit on business), and I really think this is lazy, I really didn't like it...yes I know they come from the same parent company, but an Audi is far more bespoke to Audi than simply lifting VW bits. It can and it should be done for a premium brand.

I would like to find something that will seat 4, and be fun to drive, Honda CR-Z won't seat 4, and the "fun to drive" bit may be hard.

Ideally I would like something that has been around a couple of years so I can look for a 2nd hand one at dealers, but when I did look at the 400h (and before deciding it was too big for me), I also learnt that most used car warranty schemes do not cover the electric power train of a hybrid (such as batteries).

With the Prius now being around 10 years, its a good time to ask, are Hybrids a risky second hand buy?

So two questions

1 ) recommend a hybrid - not a CT-200h, smaller than an RX400, but something good to drive, and a bit exclusive. Something that has been around minimum 2 years.
2) advice on 2nd hand buys.

I would also consider a non hybrid solution, such a good diesel (e.g. Audi A4 2.0 Tdi), or a small(ish) petrol, but I currently drive Jag S Type V6 3.0, so small buzzy petrol won't float my boat, and my experience this week put me off a diesel with stop/start.

Probably asking the impossible (tin hat on) Read more

GS450h, looks very interesting, might explore that, good value used now too... but I am not sure I can live with a CVT gearbox, I like a bit of rorty acceleration from time to time

You'd get bored to tears in the 5.9 seconds that the 0 to 62mph dash takes, and continues up to 155mph limited, pah, Micra acceleration.

I like shopping online. It helps to save my time and money.

I usually use such sites as Amazon, ebay and so on.

A few years ago, this website was a real consumer champion advertising great deals from various dealers and brokers .

Over the past few years, coverage of such deals has dried up and replace with the rubbish, lazy manuacturer deals.

Anyway,

here are some deals on brand new Chevrolets that will even make Dacia owners shocked.

main dealer replaced the clutch on my 2009 outlander (80k miles) due to slipping under load. Within 300 miles the crank oil seal has failed (they did replace it) covering the DMF and clutch with oil. The dealer now just wants to replace the clutch and not the oil covered DMF...is this correct or should they replace both? Read more

Trying to sell my car but having absolutely no luck whatsoever! Does anybody know whether a garage would buy a car - not as a trade in but just to add to their stock? Have you considered selling at auction? I'm not an expert enough to give advice, but I have sold a few vehicles this way, some went quickly other took a little longer to shift

Hi,
Hope someone can help.
The red strap has broken off one of my 3rd row seats so it is stuck in the down position.
How can I get the seat up to fit a release strap?
