Very nice and sure it will handle well, think I'll wait for the next Leon Cupra R though :-) Read more
Like it, looks more adventurous than next Golf, more sporty than new A3 and should be better value than both. With the next Octavia getting too big for it's boots this will do me nicely. Read more

We have a 55 plate current shape 1.9PD Leon with 68k on the clock. Runs fine except when it comes to hot starting. It can take 4-5 seconds of cranking to get it to fire. When it does it starts with a substantial jolt.
This happens on every hot start. Cold or part warm starts are fine. It only occurs if the vehicle has got up to full operating temperature. No fault codes logged.... Read more
Hi.
I'm looking to change cars shortly and have about 6.5 k to spend if I want. However if I spend all of that I won't have any money left if it goes wrong so I want a car that will be cheap to repair if I go up to my limit.
I had been looking online at BMW 320D 2005/2006 under 80,000 miles when I stumbled upon this website by chance. I started reading the good/the bad section and saw stories of owners having to spend thousands on their BMWs when they go wrong.
I've only ever had 'cheap' ford cars in the past, most I've spent on one is £2.5k so the thought of spending thousands on repairs is very off putting as they have always been very cheap to maintain.
In a real dilemma as I was really excited about a smart looking BMW especially as I could see some for sale at relatively high prices that had done in excess of 100k miles so was under the impression they would last forever!
Should I let this put me off buying one?
Would I be extremely unlucky to have to spend lots to keep it going?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I agree - there's nothing quite like a straight-six, particularly one of BMW's. I really ought to sell my 11-year-old Z3 2.2 while it's stil reliable, but I love the noise it makes. My Octavia vRS does a great job: it's faster and has more direct steering, but....it''s a four.

It's pathetic, who voted these idiots into power and are they tories or labour? Could be either way, they're all idiots.
These local politics people live in a world of their own. They never venture into the real world and if they did, they'd get run over. George Orwell would spin in his grave....
I have owned since new an Alfa 147 2.0 petrol which now has only 64k miles on the clock and am thinking of changing possibly for a Skoda Yeti 4x4 (petrol?). This would improve my chances I hope of getting to work - I run a pharmacy on Dartmoor and must be able to offer a service irrespective of the weather . Over the last few winters a set of snowchains has enabled me to get up the road to work on the bad days - but dealing with ice and flooded roads is still an issue. However the Alfa has given me 10 years of good service and I still love owning and driving it - our other car is a 7 seater MPV (4 kids & dog) ! The Alfa needs some wear and tear items doing but is also due a scheduled cambelt change - the dilemma is do I spend the money and keep it for a few more years or do I spend the guts of £20k on a new/ish Yeti ? What might go wrong on the Alfa in the next few years - I am also sceptical about how reliable very modern cars with all their gadgetry ! Thoughts please. Read more
Friend of mine who lives in an out of the way place traded in his car for a Land Rover after getting stuck in the snow and being unable to get home in winter on a couple of occasions
This following winter he was still unable to get home as other vehicles blocked the road!

If the aerial connector does not fit the new radio ,then I suspect it has been changed. Most vauxhall models from around 1995 -2005 use the same button type connection .You will probably need one of these.

I do not need 4WD and the boot is now too high for one of my dogs to jump into. I will have a very limited budget c.£1500 so accept that I am looking at older vehicles. I need a reliable estate capable of travelling in excess of 400 miles per week in term time, comfortable interior and space in the boot with rear seats remaining upright for 2 greyhounds to travel in comfort-occasional journeys to Cumbria, Cormwall and Yorkshire likely. It has been suggested that a VW Passat would be worth considering and I like the idea of a Citroen C5 as you can lower the suspension to make access easier for the dogs!
Any relevant suggestions welcome.... Read more
Had a look at one of these and the boot is huge-plenty of room for the dogs. Air con seems to be an optional extra on older models and this would be needed on long journeys in summer. I have been advised that the 1.9 diesel engine on the older models is the one to go for although have read conflicting reviews. Compared this with the Peugeot Partner and they are very similar but to me the Citroen has the edge (probably a girl thing!!) Fiat Doblo and Renault Kangoo may fit the bill too but there seem to be a lot of reviews which suggest lots tend to go wrong with these. Again, any feedback welcome.

That's an interesting suggestion, as it had a new DMF at about 40,000.
