My Panda has been fun and reasonably enjoyable but now the head gasket has gone. That will be £600. And then there are other nuisances like an airbag light warning light that won't go out, decomposing rear exhaust box, balding tyres... The next MOT/ service is not till March but then I anticipate shelling out another 4-500. So if I spend say £1k a year on keeping this car on the road, I am saving shelling out for something new. But I do worry it's not that safe anymore, for a daily 36 mile motorway commute. Any thoughts?? Read more
I think airbag warning light is on this year's list of new MOT fails, not sure if its part of the test yet or about to go-live... unfortunately it will probably mean a lot of otherwise OK cars will be heading for the scrapyard.
Why do the AA increase renewal fees on automatic renewal then back down immediately when challenged. Every year they quote something like double to renew, and when I check internet price and ring to say I'm leaving, they immediately offer me the internet price. They've just asked me to pay an extra £35 for joint cover, on top of a price which is equal to 2 covers! It drives me mad - I know loyalty counts for nothing these days - I'm amazed they hang onto customers. Read more

My Yaris had a sudden loss of power, engine only ticking over and no throttle response. Engine management light came on. After couple of minutes, engine starts no problems for 300 miles, although getting more difficult to start. Engine won't start at all now.

Possible poorly made fuel filter not sealing...probably nothing to do with that but worth checking....
Kind of a cross between a Vectra and the previous Passat.
Aside from rareity value I can't see who would buy it, especially as road tax will probably be in the £460 bracket.
Have just had my car returned from the main dealer because of sooted up DPF and engine management light,

Hi all, I noticed that the head lights, internal lighting and the AC display of my 307SW car flicker, but i don't hear relay clicks near the glove box as some people do. any idea? Read more
Hi Peter,
A good mechanic told me that since there was no "relay clicks" then most probably the alternator is the main suspect!...
I like to use cruise control but I do not like the adaptive control on my Range Rover Sport.

I bought my little W reg a week ago for £500. Expensive you might think but it only has 119000 on the clock, full service history and loads of bills including ones for cambelt and water pump replacement May 2011, no rust and generally a tidy car. Anyway my coolant light came on the other day, I was in the middle of nowhere so had to drive around 10 miles to get back to civilisation. A kind gentleman looked at the engine and said the head gasket had gone. This was the first time the coolant light had come on and there had been no other indications that the engine was over heating. Several questions:
a) Would the head gasket not have been changed when the cambelt was?... Read more
