Hi,

I am just new to driving world.

I purchased VW Golf 1.4 S 2006 model.

I observed when I switched on the engine, it shows Exhaust Gas Warning Lamp & EPC warning lights. However, when I start engine they both just disappear.

I have no idea if this is an issue or just normal lights.

Any suggestion will really help.

This car was MOT last week and was serviced 3 months ago.

Thanks Read more

There are a couple of issues with these as to oil waring light problems.Firstly make sure you have a genuine Peugeot oil filter fitted. Also these suffer with oil relief vave problems and can be fixed by a modified oil filter housing.hth

Saw an advertising hoarding for the new Range Rover today. Features an original Range Rover nose to nose with the new one. The original is dwarfed by the new version, but it is amazing how 'clean and simple' the original design looks. Then again the 1st generation did come out 42 years ago. Read more

The police up here in Lancs have got an Evoque - black paint, blacked out windows, full set of flashing lights inside the grille. Seems a bit ridiculous. They usually use BMW 3-series to do stealth speeder catching.

Really depends on how far it has jumped.Worst case scenario is that the valves have contacted the pistons. This usually results in the camshafts bearing frame getting broken.Although it is a seperate part of the cylinder head,it can only be bought complete with it.hth

Vectra keeps cutting out at low revs due to needing to re earth the MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor but the problem i have is where to earth it to, and what size earth wire do i use?

I'm a trainee mechanic so pictures may help but if theres non available then it's no major problem. Read more

Sorry I've been away for sometime, haven't been able to access the internet, but yes that is correct, a 2.0 litre, engine code is x20xev, the ecotec engine, if it only effects the 1.6 and 1.8 then what can be the problem, I've replaced the sensor itself, replaced the egr valve as I've had problems before, done the spark leads though they were fine and done a full service.

Hi,

Changed the rear brake light whilst lights were on, now when i turn the lights on they dont light up on drivers side, the bulb only lights up when I press the brake. both filaments are okay, bulb works fine on passenger side so dont think its the fuse. ... Read more

Also, as that sounds like a combined stop/tail bulb, it's worth checking that you have it in the right way around(!)

It's possible to fit 'em 180 degrees out and that can produce the "only one bit works" effect.

Have had this problem before in june and managed to sort it by fitting the following...new coil, ign module, dist cap, rotor arm, vac pipes, and fuel pump. Last week the problem returned and i urgently need to get the car back on the road. It starts first turn of the key every timeticks over and warms up fine, while stationary will rev fine, but as soon as you put it in gear and lift the clutch it stutters and loses power, though it doesnt completely cut out. I tested the coil as per instructions in the haynes manual and the readings were nowhere near the ohms ranges stated in the manual, could it be the coil again?

All advice much appreciated.... Read more

In the days of old fashioned ignition systems this usually indicated failure of the little condenser next to the contact breaker. By 1988 the system usually had an electronic pack feeding the coil which could have a component failed giving this same effect, worth checking that. ...
