When I switch the air con on I can hear a fan runnng, can hear it a bit in the car but its a lot louder outside the car, its coming from the front of the engine near the front grill. I am assuming this is the fan in front of the radiator. When I switch the aircon off after about 30 seconds the engine revs decrease and the fan switches off.
So is this normal, is it a problem and if so what does it mean and do I need to do anything about it. The Air con is working fine, kicks in when its switched on, nIce and cold in the car and the air smells clean as well.... Read more
I have worked with Mondeo models for the last 20 years. The cooling fan(s) will always come on with the a/c engaged .What is possible is if you have a 2 fan system,if the slow speed has been lost ,then it will work on the high speed only which can be a lot noisier. The system uses a cycling clutch compressor which I am sure is the clicking you can hear.hth
not quite sure how to describe this problem - not that i'm intending to try to fix it myself but would be good to go to my mechanic with half an idea of what it might be...
basically, the car runs absolutely fine until I'm travelling at highish speed in 4th or 5th gear, when i take the gas off to coast or to slow down, the engine gives little surges and then depowers. It's almost as if there is fuel injected and then cut off - the result is a jerky deceleration. If I use the cruise control it doesn't happen.... Read more
Check your brake lamp switch, using VCDS.
On these cars the switch is a dual unit, one half operating the lamps and the other informing the engine ECU of pedal position. If, due to a faulty switch the ECU thinks you have the brakes applied, the engine power will be cut. The idea is to stop the car "doing a Toyota". It also cancels cruise....

Why not ask your butler? Or your cleaner? With so little money, the proletariat these days have a fine idea of what they aspire to.
having replaced the fan motor I asked for location of speed resistor I was told it was in passenger footwell area.( having looked with no joy ) my relative finally found it ,while I watched him, it is directly behind the fan control switch quite difficult to remove and replace but big thanks to him he managed it. now it is working on all settings, thanks for advice given in the past Read more
