Hi All

Sorry for the daft question I noticed on my 99 Focus TDDI LX one of the belt has some bad cracking in it , it just under the power steering reservoir is this the alternator belt? , what would be the cost of the at a garage. Is it a simple job DIY or a difficult one.

Many Thanks Read more

Alternator belt change at main dealer cost £55 on our Focus TDCi. It was cracking and even thought I normally DIY access looked a total nightmare.

Our ancient (2000) tow-car is a Korando with the Mercedes 2.3 4 cylinder and automatic (4 speed) box. Recently the box has become "hesitant" : put it into drive, give it revs and after a second or two it leaps forward. It can also creep backwards down a hill when in Drive. The car is used only to tow a horse trailer and hasn't even done that for a few months, so I don't want to spend a lot on it but equally don't want to scrap it. The handbook says that the auto transmission and filter should never need its fluid changed. It needs Castrol TQ95 which isn't available as far as I can tell. My questions are as follows:

1 Is there any point in being optimistic about trans fluid being the problem?... Read more

I have now covered 10,000 miles in my 6 and have nothing but praise for the car. It is a comfortable car to be in for long periods,is quiet at legal motorway speeds(and above, but whisper it not!). Fuel consumption is reasonable at between 35 and 37 MPG.just knocking about locally. On a long run it climbs to over 40. The boot is huge, with spaces for small items such as torches etc. Unfortunately,Mazda have neglected to fit a spare wheel, electing instead to provide a stupid container of goo. Build quality is very good, and probably on a par with anything in this class for the price. A word or two to the OP: if you do get one, avoid the diesel at all costs (too many horror stories). My experience with the Mazda agent (RRG in Stockport) have been nothing short of excellent.

Am thinking of getting a 2003 Berlingo 1.9D. Will it run on waste veg oil and what mods will it need to do so? I understand that the Bosch VE fuel pump is up to the job, but is it fitted to all 03/04 cars with the 1.9D engine?... Read more
