Finally got around to ordering a new RR Evoque earlier this week.

Signed the order at the dealers after deciding on a few optional extras and left a £500 deposit.... Read more

£30? You'll lose more than that the moment you drive it out of the showroom :-)

Just got said 2010 model Van and I live in a rural area and it does not have spare wheel - just an emergency inflation kit .
If I get a blow out whilst out at work it will cost me a full days work to have to travel to a tire repair shop.
So - I'm looking for an inexpensive spare wheel I can carry in the back for emergencies.
The Fiat dealer quoted over £150 for a wheel .
So my question is , will a wheel from another fiat model fit ? 175/70 R14 84T
I know the stud pat is 98mm as other 14" Fiat wheels - but what about the wheel backspace and offset ? any idea's .

For a couple of years my Sharan had a slight hissing noise from the brake pedal. My trusted mechanic checked it out, foudn no obvious leak but reckoned it was harmless. A month ago it suddenly became much louder, like a leaking balloon, brake pedal stiffened and he replaced the servo. At the same time the car seemed to lose power, no acceleration beyond about 40mph. At first he thought this was somehow connected but fault remained after brake repair. Computer showed up a faulty Boost Pressure Sensor which he replaced to no effect. He has checked for leaks, tried replacing the MAF, loosened off the VNT vanes which seemed stiff but nothing works.

Does anyone have any idea where the fault might be?... Read more

There is often a foam noise suppressor and a loose sleeve gaiter. The noise is not normally notice except when bleeding the brakes and using extended travel. As I said a split diaphragm will create a hiss from the pedal. Regards Peter

I’ve just walked by a brand-new VW Up and noticed it was fitted with Falken tyres.

There is quite a big block of second-tier manufacturers that produce high quality tyres, and I don't see much point in using the premium brands unless the prices are similar (which they sometimes are).

I think the premium brands are just spending too much money on advertising and sponsorship of Formula 1 to keep their prices reasonable. Especially Pirelli and Bridgestone whose tyres I am rather sceptical about.

Hi

My rear drivers side headrest has started being sodden with rain as water is leaking in above. I have seen it dripping from the plastic cover at the top of the rear hatch.... Read more

Tally - you don't say how old the car is. If you want a p/x value, try Parkers (tend to be a tad high but not bad), and have a look on eBay at what the completed listings are going for. I have a 1.8L TS (2005) and I've been offered £1k p/x for it, but it's a high miler. Not much!

Friend of mine just bought a Punto 1.2 as emergency runabaout to get to a new job out of town. Bought it from a Small ad on the internet, the seller is a trader, he has taken this in PX against another vehicle.

Car appeared in good order with 56 K miles on it. However the car has blown up about 15 miles into its first journey, Had it towed off the motorway and to a garage, who diagnosed overheating - Head Gasket failure. Car now probably beyond economic repair.... Read more

It is a logical fallacy to assume that just because a common car is, well, common, that it's reliable.

There are many cars around that are better than the Punto. The only advantage this model has second-hand that I can see is that it's cheap to buy.

Worn oil pump, worn engine, blocked oil ways in camshaft (common problem caused by lack of oil changes). It will only get worse it certainly will not get better but surely it made this noise when you bought it .

So wife calls me and says her car is making a screeching noise and blowing black smoke. I tell her not to drive it one inch further and have it recovered - which she does. The garage it was recovered to immediately diagnoses turbo failure.

Wife thinks, I have an extended warranty, it covers turbo failure so all looks good. Garage removes turbo for inspection and reconditioning and files a claim with Momentum.... Read more

By the way, despite my initial posting, Momentum DID ring the landline number - so my mistake on that one.

Still not wrong on turbo falilure mode though. Have instigated SCC process.

my reversing / fog light dose not work i have changed the fuse and bulb ,followed the wires underneath can not see any breaks or shorts on it. the haynes manual with its circuit diagram espescially for the layout for the fuses is different to the ford focus owners guide wondering could it be an earth problem and where in the boot is the earthpoint since the manual dose not say ? what i find is strange both rear fog lights going into whaty looks like a conector block and is fed from wires from the boot yet only the offside rear works and the nearside / revers dose not and if they all use the same earthing point as the rear lights how come they still work ? confused ! My mum has been the happy owner of a '05 Honda Jazz 1.4 petrol Sport for the last 5 years. It has now done nearly 80,00 miles and she is looking to replace it.

She would like something with similar versatility, economy, and the ability to tow a very small caravan.... Read more

Wife had a 2008 Civic untill a few months ago. The ride quality was very poor on our ever deteriorating roads. Tried the New Civic to replace it with, the ride quality was a little better but not enough to buy another one. Shame really as the rest of the car was good and especially the rear seating and luggage area.

As a Jazz owner, I'm sure the mum could cope with the Civic's ride. After all, even a Jazz die hard couldn't argue that the ride quality was a strong point , indeed for me the only week points on the car were the slightly harsh ride and noise at motorway speeds.
