48k on the clock and another issue!
When changing gear there is an audible squeak when changing to 5th or 6th gear, no noise when changing any other gear? Is not the clutch, just the gearbox that makes the noise.
Am pretty useless at mechanics but seems as if the gears are rubbing against something, is it possible?
Has just started happening, and as I said no noise from any other gear change.
Is it a must fix now issue?
Apologies for letting male species down being so useless at mechanics!
PS These niggly things have been there since day one of ownership and part of me says change car now! but with the torque filled engine the car is great to drive. Head says get rid, heart and probably bank account says no(major repairs avoidance hopefully)

I scrapped my car on June 6th, having bought a new tax disc at the end of May. I sent the tax disc off on June 8th for a refund and have today received a letter from the DVLA, my first correspondence and it's dated July 9th. The letter says I missed some information off my form and that they cannot process my application for a refund until I have provide it.
Fair enough, but the letter goes on to state that "we will only pay a refund from the date we receive your response to this letter"! Eh? It took them just over a month to write to me and let's assume they get my response on Monday 15th July, yet I have to miss out on a months refund??... Read more
I suspect that legally they're in the right. Requirements for a refund are (1) the disc (2) correctly completed paperwork. How serious was the ommission they're alledging on the form.
Worth a polite request pointing out delay, that disc has been in their hands since June and asking them to exercise discretion. Strong words tend to get backs up and are best avoided.
Hi, I just bought a 51 reg Jaguar X Type saloon , It has a phone cradle mounted on the centre console ,next to the radio. There is a permanantly connected cable going into the bottom of the phone cradle and it then disappears behind the console trim , presumably into the radio/audio system, also at the bottom of the phone cradle there are 2 brass connection pins sticking up, one is a long one and the other is a shorter one. however whatever phone was originally fitted,is sadly no longer there, do you know what phone might have been installed originally? or can you tell me ,what is a compatible phone system that i can install? -----cheers --rastusXL Read more
Probably something like a Nokia 6310i, (a great phone with fantastic battery life!). The large brass pin is the antenna conection and the other pin, (probably two?) are the power connection pins.

Hi All,
My 1995 Celica convertible (grey Import so jap spec) has been in storage all winter.
just took it to be MOT'd - drove perfectly, no warning lights.
Went to collect it they said two warning lights had come on when they started it up to drive it into the MOT centre from the car-park.
There is the charge (battery symbol) and also "toaster" style symbol (catalyst ??) both on at once.
Tried disconnecting/reconnecting the battery to clear ECU but they remain.
Tried disconnecting battery with engine running and it dies - does this mean the alternator is dead ? Why would that cause the catalyst light ??
The drive belt is going round fine.
It had a new catalyst and oxygen sensor about 1,000 miles ago when I bought it.
It has actually passed the MOT fine - went through the emissions OK
the car only gets used in the summer for days out, long trips to countryside, and is in storage a lot of the year under a cover so kept dry.
Any ideas ??
has done about 98,000km (= 67,000 miles ??)
Is this going to be an expensive trip to a diagnostics place.....

hi i need to change the oil pressure swith vw polo 1.O L late 1998 but have been told they are coulour coded can anyone help thanks in advance Read more
I would suggest you contact a VW dealership (parts department) who should be able to help you.
i hve fuel getting into the turbo and leking from the egr vlve it lso revs up on its own nd chucks out black smoke. I presume over fueling is the problem but cnt seem to pinpoint the cause any ideas Read more
It sounds as though your turbo beaings are shot and engine oil is leaking into the compressor side and fueling the engine, thus the revving up. Beware using the car at if the oil flow increases it can over rev and blow the engine up. Regardsd Peter
Peugeot have announced plans to close the factory near Paris and shed up to 8000 jobs, that is more than Rover lost when they went down, Yes peugeot have other factories elsewhere in France, but is this the beginning of the long and slippery slope?
For myself, I find the cars are priced too high for the market segment, Why get a pug 508 when you can get a nice hyundai i40 £3000 less.. Read more
As I thought they might, Autocar have rated the 208 in this week's road test as mediocre, as did What Car.
Peugeot had their heyday from about the mid-70s to the mid-90s. The 205 and 306 were lovely cars, especially the diesels which were more fun to drive than the petrols. SWMBO had two 205s, a GRD and a turbodiesel Sceptre, and we loved them: she then had a 206 which was a sad disappointment: reliable and quite fast, but otherwise unpleasant to drive and truly uncomfortable with hard, unsupportive seats. We could never work out why Peugeot changed the design of the seats whjen the 205's had been some of the best in the business....
Hey guys,
This may seem like a silly question. The return pipes on my injectors are connected in series. Injector 4 returns to injector 3 which in turn returns to injector 2 etc etc. My question is this, is there an "in" and "out" on the fuel return ports? (each injector has two return ports)... Read more
The return ports on the injectors are both "out" and so can be daisy-chained with rubber tubing. This will give a spare port at one end which should be covered with a blanking cap.
Beware, on PSA vehicles the rubber pipe hardens (so does the cap) and eventually cracks, letting air into the system. This will give rise to poor starting as the transfer pump pulls air....
I have just bought a 51 reg Jaguar x Type , It has a phone cradle alongside the radio but the phone is missing. The cradle has two conctions pins sticking up in the bottom ,one is a long one and the other is a short one, Can anyone tell me what carphone I need to replace the missing original . or what other car phone is compatible with my car, that I could use in place of the original, Read more
It will be an old Nokia why on earth you want one of these only you know better to replace it with a blue tooth unit in car and you can use virtually any newish phone.
