When purchased my 2008 XJ had the analogue TV option fitted. With the removal of analogue signal I can no longer use (when stationary of course).
Does anyone know of an update availability to provide a digital signal for continued use at a sensible cost? Read more
There are plenty of auto digital tuners available some even have freeview as well they fit in the aerial line and are powered by a 12v supply any ICE shop worth its salt will advice and fit one for you if you think its beyond you.
Just type "car digital tuner" into ebay and it comes up with plenty.
Hi
I have a Honda Accord 2006 with 85,000 miles on the clock. It's always been serviced and has been completely reliable. Recently there has been a 'knocking' or clonking noise from the front suspension. This is most ibvious at low speed and you pass over broken surfaces. Although it's hard to be exact it seems to be affecting both the left and right sides.... Read more
At a guess I would say drop links or front roll bar rubbers both are easy repair jobs and will not break the bank.
I recently bought a 2006 forester which overheated before I got it home ( 60 miles ). The dealer took it back for diagnosis and repair. They changed the thermostat and the filler cap but the problem remained. They then changed the water pump and used a thermal imaging camera on the radiator. The problem persisted. Eventually after talking to Porsche of all people the fault was chased back to the engine right bank cylinder head bolts. These apparently stretch allowing exhaust gases into the coolant system. This only manifests itself after driving 40 miles plus when the engine is fully warmed up. Thankfully the dealer took the hit on the chin and paid for the repairs. They also replaced the timing belt and tensioners, which seems sensible, but they weren't obliged to do this. A big chuck up for Hampshire Trading Limited of Alton, Hampshire. Read more

Unfortunately we do not have a society like Germany or Scandinavia whose citizens tend to obey the rules. You have to get use to the idea that in GB we have a fair sprinkling of the thoughtless, the moronic and the selfish and these are the ones you have to legislate for in any system. This small but persistent group take up a disproportionate amout of time and effort to keep them from taking advantage, either by ignorance or design, and spoiling the system for everyone else. So get your helpers to concentrate on keeping this group in check and things should run smoothly. Cheers Concrete
Car has covered approx 30K miles and dealer seviced from new. No problems selecting gears but recently noted this noise. It is not intrusive at the moment but is similar to an old rear diff box low on oil. Dealer says sounds like a gearbox bearing and could be expensive..Bring the car in? I cant even find any info in the owners manual as to where the gearbox is and how to check oil level. I have read varius negative reports about the gearbox but we have not had any problem until now.. Any advice please? Read more
Don't use the oil they say to I did one of these two weeks ago drop the oil and refill with ep oil of a thicker vocosity it cured my customers car if it is the box probably easier quicker and cheaper to source a second hand box with a warranty
Hi all,
First time poster, so go easy ;-).
Could anyone explain to me the process that used car sales people undertake when checking a cars history before purchasing it, i assume it depends on the method they buy the car using, so for example if they are at an auction do they use one of those car text checking services, and if the car is being offered as a part exchange do they do a ca history check on a website whilst the car owner is sitting in front of them?
The reason I ask is that I'm looking into setting up a trade only business for car history checking, my aim is to lower the cost as far as possible. Does anyone with experience have any idea how much these checks cost when you buy them in bulk with one of the big suppliers?
Basically my parents bought a stolen car and it cost them alot of money and it really annoyed me, im in IT so i thought id do something about it and im trying to understand the process that used car showrooms go through before selling the car on to the end user.
Thanks for any help anyone can give.

I've just hidden a post (opening a decade old thread), from a previous poster who had included a link to a pay service, which I deemed to be an attempt at gaining free advertising, deleting the link. The second post, hidden, eluded to the same website. I've disabled his account, but if he emails moderators@honestjohn.co.uk with justification as to why this action is unfair, then we will consider his position.
After fitting new front discs and pads, we are having a problem with the front LHS tening to bind slightly and over heating the brake.
it seems that the hydraulic cylinders are not retracting after the brake is applied,
before buying a new cylinder i would welcome your opininion on this.

As Collos, but did you properly clean and lube any sliding mechanism on the caliper, was it easy to push the piston(s) home to accept the new pads.
Today's edition of the Telegraph has an article about a proposed scheme to impose a speed limit of 40 mph on quiet rural roads. Depending on the roads chosen for the limit I think it's a good idea.
There is a road junction on the hill above Rainow, near Macclesfield, where there is a 30 mph sign for the major road almost next to a national maximum speed limit (60 mph) on the lane leading off. If anybody tried to do any speed at all on that lane it would be a short cut to the cemetary for someone. Read more
It would be fairly simple if configured this way:
Your speed limit is 40 mph unless:...
