Hi Guys,

Recently purchased the golf in the title as my first car, the engine runs really nicely on it but i have some issues on start up.

it has started everytime first time but sometimes the car decides sounds a little like it is struggling with lower toned "wurr wurr" kinda noise, and as soon as the engine first turns over sometimes there is a higher pitched short and sharp noise, that sounds kinda maybe like rubber catching against metal at a guess?

i have had one person suggest the higher pitch noise is the starter motor and that its not really anything to worry about apart from it being an annoying noise

im just wondering whether i should pay to have the car checked out and potentially look at having the starter motor replaced? or is there soemthing i am missing that is perhaps more likely responisble for the issues

am very much a car novice so would appreciate any advice, just dont wanna get caught out with a car that wont go anywhere

on a different topic, i drove to work the other day and the interior light decided to flick on and off which was seemingly dependant upon how much i accelerated.. couldnt turn it off, but it has not done this again yet... that more likely going to be the door switch issue?

thanks,

Hello beackroom

Is there a method whereby a vehicle is converted to run on LPG, and this system can be used to bring air conditioning to the vehicle itself. I have noticed that LPG is very cold as a liquid and it would be good to use this for the cabin.... Read more

The issue you have is the massive range of fuel flow rates from idle to peak power. This makes it difficult to size the heat exchanger. If you size it get a decent temperature drop at idle then it would be swamped at full power and would ice up. If you size it to cope with full power then you don't get a decent temperature drop at low fuel flow rates.

The air conditioning tends to work hardest when the car is started from rest-when it is usually running on petrol...

I have put a £500 deposit on a car at a dealership. I live some distance from the the dealer and have therefore not seen the car. An independent inspection of the car found a number of issues which need to be addressed before the car is purchased. The dealer has told me the deposit is non-refundable. How am I going to be sure that the dealer has rectified the faults and what are my rights if I want to pull out of the sale? Can I claim my deposit back?

Am I right in thinking that as I paid the deposit over the phone I have a 7 day cooling off period as it is classed as distance selling? ... Read more

Hi,
It's reckless to agree to buy a car in this way ,however you are probably covered by distance selling regulations so should be entitled to a refund .The difficulty is getting the dealer to refund your deposit ,you may have to use the small claims court to recover your deposit .

Alternatively did you pay the deposit by credit/debit card ,ring your card company ,in some circumstances they can recover the money from the sellers account and return it to yours .

Finally are you sure that the faults identified by the inspection are serious ,if they are , you would need a second inspection to confirm they have been rectified ,if they are minor could you negotiate an extra discount to cover the cost of repairing them. The condition of the car is dependant on its age ,be realistic .

It's not that easy to resolve .From the dealers perspective ,you agreed to buy a car now you changed your mind .He's bound to be irritated .

Hello,

I recently posted about my car idling erratically. My engine management light had come on and the car had stalled once or twice due to the idling problem. I was informed that my MAF sensor had gone, so I replaced it.... Read more

I have a Ford Fiesta 1.4 zetec (02 reg) and it keeps cutting out everytime I slow down at a junction/stop at lights. Everywhere seems to be pointing toward a faulty/unclean Idle control valve, however after ringing Fords they told me my car does not have one? Would this be correct, if possible any other ideas? Could be a dodgy alternator. My old Micra used to have the same symptoms. It would start first time, then try to stall as I pulled up at some traffic lights after a 10 mile run on the motorway!

One day I pulled up at some lights and everything on the instrument panel went dead....

I have just tried to buy a set of roof bars for my i40 estate directly from a Hyundai dealer.

They are very reasonably priced when compared to the equivalent from Thule but they will only sell them to me if I have have them fitted at the dealership.
This costs £60.00. Apparantly they are difficult to fit owing to the roof shape and Hyundai UK insist that they must initlally be fitted by a dealer

Has anbody else experinced difficulty fitting roof bars to an I40 or is this just salesman's BS ?.

I've watched the a video of the Thule bars being fitted ans it looks like a 5 minute job ! Read more

You need to identify which engine you have It is on the ID label in the service book or the label in the spare wheel bay. Like AJM. There were several 1.9 tdi's around that time. Regards Peter

Hi all, please bare with me because I am very green regarding cars!

I'm about to buy my first car and one option is an 02 Fiesta. Cat D, but I have given it a test drive and although the wheel alignment was clearly off it felt OK. The dealer says it was just the front bumper needed replacing. However, my boyfriend reckons bad wheel alignment could be a symptom of something bad relating to the reason it's cat D - so should I stay clear?... Read more

Don't bother with a Cat D (or any other Cat) vehicle.

If the front bumper needs replacing, why hasn't the dealer done this anyway?...
