vw passat 1.9tdi 2001 - ref elensioner - vu51dwe

need to replace alternator belt tensioner on my vw passat ,however is it nessesary to rremove the fan to replace the tensioner as Ive hear that you can get access by removing the front bumperand if I do need to remove fan ,what other tool can i use as i havent got the correct vw tool

You need to identify which engine you have It is on the ID label in the service book or the label in the spare wheel bay. Like AJM. There were several 1.9 tdi's around that time. Regards Peter
