Just got two small chips in my windscreen. They are right in the drivers line of sight, but are only 1 or 2mm in size. So no MOT fail and not affecting my vision. No cracks have appeared.
Do these need repairing urgently?... Read more
I have a problem starting my car occasionally and now think this could be the solenoid which is inbuilt to the starter motor. Is it easy to repair or better to replace... Read more
If its intermittently not turning over its probably the starter/solonoid that's at fault. You can test it by by connecting a wire from the battery+ to the small terminal on the solonoid, if it still doesn't work you will need a replacement. I don't know if you can get the solonoid seperately but starters are not overly expensive on ebay.

anyone know best place to buy one from ? Read more
Halfords have got loads of "approved" ones!!!At least our local one has-and ,as for setting headlights to "lowest setting",no problem on main roads but as soon as I turned off onto winding country lanes ,it was back to highest setting and tape!
We have just bought an 08 Picasso. Our problem is that the rake of the windscreen means that the road markings are reflected on the top corners of the screen. As you drive the markings appear to spin around, creating a kind of strobing effect. It does not bother me much but the phenomenon triggers migrains and eye strain/pain for my wife. Using the sun visors only partly covers the effect. Strangley we do not have the other common problem of the dashboard being reflected. Advice please, are there any non reflective coatings for example, otherwise we might have to sell the car. Read more
I think I have sussed where the problem is coming from, its the side/quarter lights, on the Picasso they are a lot bigger than on other cars. The reflection in the front winscreen is prestty much the same shape as the quarter lights only upside down. So i hope that if we put in a light tint/shade on the quearter lights this might do the trick. Fingers crossed. any thoughts at how dark the tint should be?
Is there a plan to make anyone registering a car provide details of their driving licence and proof of insurance? I know that proof of insurance is required for a new car first registration, and for taxing a car at change of ownership, but a friend here on holiday says that in switzerland the driving licence is required too. (And there is a fee payable for the change of ownership process) Does anyone know how it happens in the EU?

Trouble is, us law abiding tax paying majority, mugs, already jump through all the hoops the apparatchiks can dream up for everything taxable, not sure i want yet more measures designed to extract ever more money from the dwindling number of us nett conrtibutors, oh and another level of surveillance....about the only place you arn't monitored or watched, yet, is in the loo.
Its the unlicensed, non resident, non travelling, non taxpaying, unlawful, illegally here and downright anti social who are the problem here, goodness knows we had enough of our own already we didn't need the numbers topping up....

Rather scary incident on the school run today. A car with a blue disabled badge was parked with 2 wheels on the pavement right outside school in the restricted area and as I squeezed past on foot I clipped the wing mirror. As I approached my house just a 100 yards around the corner the car drove up and the driver, a gentleman in his late 50's, got out shouting abuse and pushing me for bashing into his car. Quite scary especially as this was in front of my 6 year old.
I said back to him that he shouldn't park on the pavement, to which he said he was allowed to park on the pavement due to his blue badge ( I think it is hs wife's badge). I went into my house wanting to just get away and then threatened to smash my car which was on the drive!
I am tempted to email the local government dept who look after blue badges, also tempted to report the lovely gentleman! I've posted before about pavement parking outside school, which has been better recently but this is a new twist! Read more
You should report it, pushing you is assault. Far more serious than parking on the footpath.
Greetings.

I guess that the BCI unit is the located under the dash on passanger side?
Yes, I'm sure the insurers claw back the cost of "free" windscreen repairs by hiking the premium the following year.
I got a Nissan Micra screen fitted for 110 pounds a couple of years back....
