In my experience, get it done by dealer. I had to pay £120 because I didn't have the passkey card but you need to make sure that the immobiliser code is properly reset or you will have problems!
True story. In early February, we decided we'd look around some Hyundai dealerships, see if any of them happened to have a pre-owned i30 estate, Premium model, in stock. Turned out, they were as rare as the droppings of an indiscreet rocking horse. So. . . we went online to Autotrader, checked the listings there, and found a 2011 model of the exact spec we wanted.
Autotrader provided a link to the dealer's website so we followed it up and there, on the SG Petch website was a picture of the car, the price, and further details. The car was at the Darlington dealership, which happened to be 84 miles from us, but it seemed ideal for our requirements so we decided, the journey would be worthwhile.... Read more
TH ,Mr Petch will have been involved in setting up this system ,do you believe they have so little control of their business ?
Think about it ,if a dealer says the car you want is sold he never hears from you again ,if you travel to his garage he has a chance to sell you a car ,in terms of effort and cost ,it's cost him little or nothing .
A dealer who was more capable would say when you arrive at the garage ,I'm sorry ,we sold that car an hour ago ,however let's see if we can offer an alternative.
I know it's a miserable practice ,however it cuts both ways ,I have potential buyers who ring and make an appointment for a specific time ,they don't ring to cancel ,and don't show up .
i bought a citroen c5 from a garage last year and they were meant to have fited a new head gasket. when i put it in for mot this year it fail on the head gasket as it had gone. the garage has said they would replace it and do the work. i dont trust them due to the fact that if they had done the work last year then it would not have gone by now. how can i tell if they have actualy done the work this time that they stated thay are going to do. If parts have been renewed you can ask for the old parts back. So a head gasket would be the gasket itself+headbolts (unless you've agreed to old bolts being reused at your own risk).
I suppose you don't know if the head gasket is not any old one pulled out of the bin, but any check is better than nothing!
Hi, I have a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 8 valve which has recently stated to get very smokey on start up and now when idling or sat in traffic, when at speed it runs fine and there does not seem to be any smoke. It does use a fair bit of oil, but that seems to be a known thing with these cars, I have been reading through other forums and there seems to be conflicting problems mentioned by different people.
As its 10 years old I dont want to take it to a garage and get a massive repair bill more than its worth.
Any Help please Read more
Yes its blue smoke with an oil smell to it, thanks for the advise I will try your suggestions.

Just wondered if anyone had a Parrot bluetooth system installed in their car? I am contemplating one in the S40 and note that Halfords do a supply and fit option but, from my experience of Halfords as a cyclist, am vary wary of letting them loose on my car electrics with a pair of wire cutters.
Regarding the Parrot system itself are they any good? Am just a bit fed up of my Bluetooth headset. Read more
It's easy to fit yourself actually. I fitted a Parrot MKi9200 to my Avensis and it works well. Just check the Parrot website to see if you need the adapter lead which you can find on ebay for about £18. Allow about an hour to an hour and a half to fit.
I ended up in a world of confusion where there were about six different adaptors available for the car. Fortunately, when I asked on a forum, I got a very sensible response from a chap who sold 'em and told me which P/N I required (Parrot themselves didn't do one, it was a 3rd party product)....
I hope the production version looks like the concept shown at Geneva. If so, I would be very tempted. Love the styling, Very good news for the North East as well. Read more

Youre right its very good news for NE jobs, but as for the styling I think they just spent a day watching 70's sci-fi movies and then copied bits of the new Focus, Honda Civic and a bit of Citroen DS4.
Saw a few cars on AT that had a Yahoo contact email address. Prices were extraordinarily low. A 2011 Ford Kuga for £6000. Another for a Jaguar, same year £8000. Possible scam? Contacted AT, ads not removed.I contacted the Kuga owner and this is the email sent to me. Scam or no scam- does Yahoo operate such a copper bottomed scheme that I would not lose money on? Too good to be true?
" Due to the fact that i am located outside UK and we can not deal in person,i`ve contacted Yahoo Finance regarding this issue and they told me that they could offer to me a program that is created especially for international transactions that protects both of us. They agreed to supervise this deal.
You will send the funds to Yahoo Finance and they will keep the money until you receive the vehicle and test it.In this way both buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction. They will hold and insure your money until receipt of the car in good condition. That is how their service is working. As far as the seller concerns, i will be glad to know that Yahoo Finance is in possession of the funds during the delivery period.
You will be given a 15 days inspection period from the day you receive the car at home( i will ship it to your address insured for full value to you ).
If you decide to keep the car, then you will have to authorize Yahoo Finance to release the funds to me, and the transaction is complete. If the vehicle is not as described ( perfect interior, exterior, mechanical condition ), you will be able to send the vehicle back through the same shipping company ( return postage at my expense ), and ask Yahoo Finance to return the money to you."... Her first email when I asked if the price was a misprint was that she bought the car here, right hand drive, moved to Portugal. Wouldn't be able to sell it there because of RH drive, so was offering it for low price to get rid. She stated the car is there for shipping but the photos of the caer were definately taken here. The distance from my home address came up on AT as 18 miles away. Okay they might not be breaking any rules so you say, but using Yahoo name as a broker is misleading, bordering on fraud. If AT aren't interested in stopping them, surely Yahoo would be.
Now that's what I call a car. Subaru never ceases to amaze me with every car they release. Having said that, please excuse me as I pick my jaw up from the floor. Read more
I think it is one of the most anticipated Car launch and I happened to see some snap shots of the car and its really cool. BRZ and GT 86 are really most awaited car models and the best part is that the newly developed 2.0 liter power-plant is exclusively for BRZ and GT 86. Anyways, thanks for the informative share.

Cheat,I do,flat battery?use jump leads, fault like yours?I keep 5 ltrs of fresh diesel,an in line filter and primer bulb,of one like yours that I scrapped, and a couple of lines of fuel pipe,I dissconect the vehicles fuel feed and return and hook up my slave system,if the fault is gone I know where it is,or isn't.
Next step for me is to hook up a vacuum gauge to the fuel input on the injection pump and crank it over to see if there is any suck to pull the fuel up....
