Just bought an used Honda Jazz 1.2 i-VTEC SE [VSA] (a little over 2 years old with a 59 number plate) from a main Honda dealer. Notice that the gear shift indicator prompts me to shift up the gear from 4th to 5th even when the speed is only doing 35 miles/hour. Is this normal?
I have never driven a car with a gear shift indicator before. I would expect the gear to stay at 4th when the speed is between 30--40 miles/hour and usually only change from 4th to 5th after the speed reaches 40+miles/hour. Is this expected on this model or is the indicator faulty?... Read more
Yes. You don't need much power to maintain speed, so it is more efficient to use the highest gear possible once you've finished accelerating. I usually skip into fifth at 30 (but my car has low gearing). Don't use fourth much any more-it's a bit of a non-gear!
I recieved my brand new BMW on Thursday evening, on the way home, I noticed the the speed dial wouldnt move passed 29mph, even though I was driving faster.
I called up the dealer, who told me to test it again in all the modes, which I did, and noticed I was doing 40mph and the dial would show 20mph.... Read more

I checked fuses to no luck and now my airbag warning light is on. How do i reset my airbags? and how can i fix the drivers door problem? Any advice greatly received, thanks Carol. Read more

I have just returned from 3 months abroad. Unfortunately on trying to start my Golf (2 years old) it was totally devoid of power. The remote would not even open doors.
Looking at various forums I found out how to open the door (use key in notch below the cover to the rear of handle), I then jump started car. It initially sounded car alarm, but this went off. When I tried next time car started perfectly and everything worked, however when I had driven some miles and parked the car it would not start again. It was totally dead, again the remote wouldn't even open doors. It must have had power in the battery by that time. I can now start car easily if I jump start, and car works quite normally when engine running but will not do anything after car is switched off.... Read more
The problem is that if you immediately turn the ignition on after driving for say, about 5 miles, you get absolutely nothing! Not even a red light. A battery has to be very dead for that to happen and this battery is less than two years old.

Planning to drive down to London couple of times a month. I'm thinking of buying a Small Van.has to be High enough to accomadate a Honda 125 Scooter. Going to use that in London gets round the Congestion Charge. Also looking for the best MPG I can get.Thinking of a Ford Connect not sure of the MPG on these. Any others I should considerBudget would be about 5 to 6000.Thanks for any advice Read more
Is the only reason you are considering a van because you want to carry a bike in the back? Would the scooter fit in comething like a Berlingo? More comfortable, more useful when not being used to carry the bike, not speed restricted and possibly easier to get hold of a decent one. Van prices are high at the moment.
Hi I have a c3 1.4 diesel 90bhp citroen, I am having a slight lack of power. have took it to the garage and was told it was the turbo however am having no excessive smoke and as said before its just a slight lack of power. Are there any sensors etc which could be causing this? the spanner sign comes up on the dash when the ignition is on which makes me think it may be a sensor. have checked all oil levels and are ok. any help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks Andy. Read more
Turbo seized doesn't mean lots of smoke.
What makes you think the garage is wrong anyway?, you could always seek a second opinion from an expert, best found at a Diesel specialst workshops....
Just had new glow plugs fitted (2 had gone down), car starts ok but still smokes excessively for first minute after starting then settles down. Read more
If its firing on all cylinders when it starts its probably lack of compression that's causing it to smoke. Wouldn't worry about it if it drives OK.
Fuel is at its highest ever price, huge amounts less are being sold so have any posters started cutting down on mileage? Many people have no choice but to grin and bear it if they use the car for work but trips to the offspring and days out are another matter. Salaries aren't going up much if at all to compensate. Diesel was 150ppl last time I was home. However, now the Highlands and Islands get a 5ppl discount so diesel is down to 145ppl and unleaded 138ppl.
Here in Germany I filled up at an Aral station last week at €1.45 per litre....

How far are you going?
I've used one on the old Renault Meggie-loaded with a pair of touring bikes. No obvious problems, but I kept the speed down and probably wouldn't want to travel to the south of France at 80+mph with this set up!...
