Citroen C5 - how can i check the garage is doing the work they - irish lass

i bought a citroen c5 from a garage last year and they were meant to have fited a new head gasket. when i put it in for mot this year it fail on the head gasket as it had gone. the garage has said they would replace it and do the work. i dont trust them due to the fact that if they had done the work last year then it would not have gone by now. how can i tell if they have actualy done the work this time that they stated thay are going to do.

Hi,

First of all, it is wrong to assume that your garage did not change the head gasket last year without any evidence. There are many reasons why a head gasket can go - cracked or warped head are a couple just to mention. If the garage are offering to do the job for free, then let them. They are repairing it under parts warranty and you should not have to foot the bill. If you are concerned that they won't change it, ask them to call you when its got the head off so you can see for yourself. They certainly won't be putting the old gasket back on. Just because a head gasket has been done once does not mean it won't go again.... It's the weak point in any engine.

Do you have the MOT fail certificate, can you post up the "reasons(s) for refusal"?

What, if any, tests did they do to confirm HG failure?

I find it difficult to believe that a leaking head gasket would be a cause of MOT failure. I think we need some more information.

it failed on a few bulbs and back box of exhaust also. i know wot poople are saying but i also know wot garages are,like. i just want to make sure i am not been riped off and that the work is done as stated.

also how can u check to see if work has been done. there are cowboy people out there. i am not stating they are all like it but u got to be on your guard.

If parts have been renewed you can ask for the old parts back. So a head gasket would be the gasket itself+headbolts (unless you've agreed to old bolts being reused at your own risk).

I suppose you don't know if the head gasket is not any old one pulled out of the bin, but any check is better than nothing!
