Volvo S40 - Parrots - Dingle232

Just wondered if anyone had a Parrot bluetooth system installed in their car? I am contemplating one in the S40 and note that Halfords do a supply and fit option but, from my experience of Halfords as a cyclist, am vary wary of letting them loose on my car electrics with a pair of wire cutters.

Regarding the Parrot system itself are they any good? Am just a bit fed up of my Bluetooth headset.

I have a Parrot 3200LS system fitted to our Zafira.

1) It is marvellous. A miracle of simplicity. Far and away the best in-car bluetooth system I have ever used. Better and more flexible than the offerings of: Ford, GM, Mitsubishi, Toyota, BMW, Merc and FIAT from personal experience. GM and Mitsu come close, all the others make my "bargepole" list.

2) I fitted it myself and it's a doddle. Just plug into the DIN connectors behind the radio, mount the box somewhere (mine's cable-tied to a strut beneath the glovebox) and route the wires to the head unit and mic. No wire cutters required, although a DIN adaptor loom may be in many vehicles. The adaptor loom I got preserves all the steering wheel controls for the radio and lets the volume buttons there control the phone levels too.

I cannot recommend the product highly enough.

There are plenty of car radio specialists out there. The chap who fitted the parrot to my landcruiser had done at least a dozen landcruisers before - he knew exactly how the trim came out, where best to place the unit etc. No way would I let a halfords 'technician' near my car.

I have a parrrot ck3100. Excellent piece of kit.

I had Parrot systems in my cars for ages but decided to change to Motorola for a change and I have been pleasantly suprised as to how much better than the Parrot this unit is.

The benifits are two phones and two phone books simultanousley plus it can be programed fot one to four speakers and you can play your I player or USB through the unit a usefull piece of kit..

We have had Parrot CK3100s in various cars. Very good but my only convcern is if the car systems will not let the Parrot integrate properly so it does not auto mute the radio or let the sound come out from the speakers.

This is the problem in my wife's Mercedes A150 so we have a separate speaker, but the volume is not high enough for me. This is one of the 'many' reasons I ditched Volvo XC90.

That's cunning. I wonder how they've done that? Don't think I've seen anything else do that. What happens if a call comes in to both active devices at the same time?

It's easy to fit yourself actually. I fitted a Parrot MKi9200 to my Avensis and it works well. Just check the Parrot website to see if you need the adapter lead which you can find on ebay for about £18. Allow about an hour to an hour and a half to fit.

I would not try and fit it myself to be honest as I haven't a clue with that sort of stuff. I spoke to a guy locally yesterday who quoted £190 to fit the CK3100. Having called a few places that seems to be a pretty standard price for fitting them. The Volvo does need a specific lead.

Ah well, nice idea.

I ended up in a world of confusion where there were about six different adaptors available for the car. Fortunately, when I asked on a forum, I got a very sensible response from a chap who sold 'em and told me which P/N I required (Parrot themselves didn't do one, it was a 3rd party product).

Wish I could remember who it was, I'd give him a hat-tip here. Ended up buying the unit off him too, his price was only a tenner more than the cheapest I'd found and it seemed worthwhile to provide incentive to him to keep up with the free advice!
