I would not replace any part until a proper analysis of the engine control system is made.Get some basic diagnostics done first otherwise you will be throwing money away.hth

My VW PASSAT S TDI drives well around town but when I go on motorways, specially if its uphill, you feel a clear damp in the acceleration as someone has applied brakes on it and then its just no power in the engine. I put my foot down on the floor and it takes ages to get from 60mph to 70mph and it doesn't go above 80mph, I remember it has gone up to 120mph and the engine use to give a nice whistle like sound when I use to accelerate hard but not any more.
I noticed 1 pipe going from the MAF meter to the engine that was broken, I repaired it and it worked well for a few days but now I am having the same problem again.
According to my mechanic its the turbo or the clutch thats gone but I dont believe that as the car drives well around town.
Any idea what it could be? Read more

Thanks Craig-pd130

I dont know how it broke but I believe it was during the service because this problem started right after the service and I noticed it a few days later and put a tape around it which worked well for few days but I think I should take your advice to change the whole pipe and will let you know if it worked....

'''Same goes with trucks. The rookies wil sit there playing with the splitter all day long. The experienced drivers will only make changes they actually need.'''

And some experienced drivers forced to use Satans automated manual gearbox will override the damned thing seeing as they all (Volvo excepted) are useless at junctions and severe hill climbing, trying to keep the revs down and not have them go off the scale when the idiot box can't cope....and don't mention manoeuvering...tic tic....

Frequently my Fiesta 2008 TDCi goes into Limp Home Mode after a warning alarm sounds and the dash says 'Engine management fault. Ford plugged it in and it pointed towards the fuel filter which we have now changed, but it is still happening. The only other thing that needs doing is the fuel injectors need changing. Would this cause the fault alarm to sound and the LHM? Read more

I am thinking about improving the handling of the car - it sits on soft suspensions and on 18" M tech wheels - but i got a lot of inspiration from the top gear episode featuring the 24hr race with the 330D

Is it a good idea to put a front anti-role bar on the engine bay area?... Read more

I seem to have a problem a niggling problem with the car - when i sleect first gear it often has the tendecy to stall, i have developed a style or i have got used to the car. when i lift the clutch up and the revs are little - i feel there is a hestitation unless it has a few extra revs - this has casued me to stall the car - even someone else who drove it stalled it a few times - is this normal? does the clutch need adjusting - i have driven it on long journeys fine Read more

Hi I dont know about the gearing on the 2002 model because itll have 5 gears I presume, Weve got a 2003 tourer with 6 gears and really to me 1st and reverse are too highly geared when first started from cold in the morning and the engines still a bit "grumpy" itll try its hardest to stall if not careful once you set off. once warm its fine but you still have to have at the back of your mind that its easy to stall espaecially when pulling out of a junction to beat that 44 tonner!! and several other people I know with bms say the same. In reverse unless youve got a good run backwards its nearly a slip the cutch job which i personally dont like, saying that it does actual 46mpg so Im happy

So Id say your car is "normal" unless its got another mechanical problem

I have just taken delivery of a new A3 and I'm now booked up to take my new car to Holland.
I understand that I need to use headlight deflectors if I use my dipped headlights, however I plan not to do any night driving as at is my first venture into driving in Europe.
I have two questions with regard to this. As my new car is fitted with LED DRL's, this will cover me for lights during the day if visibility is good. So if I am not going to use my dipped beams do I still need to fit headlight deflectors, or can I just have them in the car to be fitted if I do need to use my dipped beams?
Also, will the headlight deflectors work with the xenon headlights (not the adaptive ones) on the A3? Read more

In my experience it's only in France that the police seem to check headlamp beams and even then it's a question of really bad luck to get caught. There are occasional checks at borders, and les flics theoretically can carry out on the spot checks for things like Hi-Vis jackets, insurance documents, GB stickers or EU-style registration plates, etc. The Dutch police are nowhere near as ruthless in this respect. On the spot fines are possible but nowhere near as common as in France.

You say that you are not planning to drive at night, but why not just fit the beam deflectors anyway? You may drive after dark; you may encounter banks of fog and it may rain (it does rain in Holland!) and driving along dazzling every other driver you pass on the road is not exactly courteous....
