Some years ago I took a car battery back to Halfords with the receipt and the in time guarentee and was told by the manager that a) I had to buy a new one and b) it would be returned to the manufacturer and my money refunded if it was faulty. My reply was "come with me sunshine and read that notice on the wall. Out load!" He read "no quibble guarentee" and was told he was "quibbling" and I intended staying in his shop until he came to a different conclusion. He handed me a new battery and I insisted I be given a new gaurentee! I resolved then NOT to be fobbed off in future.

Today, same story up to b) they tested it with their standard green tester and told me there was nothing wrong with it and it was my alternator not charging it or charging too much. Figures given were under 12 volt or over 14.5 ( which I said was far too high)and I would have to bring vechicle in for a test. This showed battery at 12 point something, with engine running13.6 and with "everything" on the same 13.6. I was now told there was no manufacture's fault and nothing could be done as it was over a year old. They were told that as it was not holding a charge it was not performing as a car battery should etc as per "sales of goods act" Result but with same guarentee running out as on old battery. Why do they try it on???? Read more

Never understood why someone would buy a battery from Halfords - unless it was a distress purchase. Halfords advertising and large high street/retail park premises have to be paid for by someone. A local factor will supply one of equal or better quality cheaper, usually from functional premises on an industrial estate.

Halfords know their market. Have a look in the car park - it's chavland.

Hi, I am new here and great to be a part of this site.

I have an issue with my Chevrolet Beat car, recently it started giving me low average and consuming too much of petrol. Somebody from this site http://www.indiagarage.com/ suggested that we have to check the tank of the oil whether it is leaking, but i doubt it is. Read more

Has anyone tried (or have) the C3 Picasso with EGS? What are your impressions?... Read more

I do not have any experience of the EGS gearbox, however there is a report on it here, c4owners.org/plugins/content/content.php?content.43

I have owned a C3 picasso for just over 2 years, and have nothing but praise for it, driven back and to the UK three times so far and the average fuel consumption (1.6 HDi) is just over 56mpg....

has anone used black code remaping to improve the performance on an aurus? does remaping work? will it affect my guarentee (4years left) ?

the car has no acceleration and any slight incline means changing down 2 gears and lots of throttle to maintain 50mph my dealer says he will not look at the car if the engine management light is not on Read more

This could be a simple fix- take it to a good garage. There is some around.

Have a b5 audi. engine seems to be running ok, with the exception of a flat spot in second gear low down and a slight rattle/hum/vibration noise in the engine in high gear at low revs. and at idle and when im parked or stopped in traffic the temp gauge goes over 90, sometimes as far as 95

Was a tiny bit of yellow gunk at end of dipstick when I checked but den checked again half an hour later there wasn't. Also a bit of oil in water tank.

Is it f***ed. cant make a mechanic this week due to work, even working paddys day. some slight blue-ish smoke from exhaust this morning too was putting it down to slight overfueling maybe, can smell fuel and maybe it was just fuel fumes.

any tips/advice/help.

Also if worst comes to worst, where could I pick up an Audi a4 engine, 1.6/1.8. Read more

Hi all, just taken delivery of a brand new galaxy, TD, been checking things over, but have found a high pitched noise from left of engine bay, which lasts for about 15-20 seconds, then a clunk from right side of bay which switches noise off, then the same process happens again, this is when engine is off, whether it happens while running I wouldn't know, as you wouldn't hear it then, nothing in the manual about it, before I contact my dealer to be told its some computer thingy checking on the fllange thingy which lubricates the waffle button, and which is normal (and feel an idiot) is there anyone out there with an answer. We have a new Galaxy with the 2.2tdci engine. When getting out of the car I have also noticed a high pitched noise coming from under the bonnet and it does stop after prob the length of time you state. I have not noticed it approaching the car on a morning but will make a point of checking. I assumed it was something to do with the keyless entry sensors but thinking about it the sensors are side and rear only. If you do get to the bottom of it please post an update as you have me wondering now.

I will just add that there's a lot of difference between a £5k car and a £10k car - the £10k could be something absolutely brand new..............

The most popular cars in France by sales of new vehicles are #1 Renault Clio, #2 Peugeot 207, #3 Renault Megane and #4 Citroen C3. So they are definitely patriotic!

Hi all, with all the talk about hosepipe bans I was wondering if waterless clean &wax products are any good and would there be enough protection for paint and bodywork I would be obliged if anyone can throw some light on this matter. Read more

Personally I would never touch any of these so called wonder products with a barge pole. Grit + Cloth = Sandpaper.

Nothing looks worse than a car covered with scratches and unless you clean it properly that is exactly what you will get.

My parents gave me a low mileage Focus 1.6 automatic to replace my 16 year old K11 Micra as a second car. The car is great it is lovely to drive but is too thirsty and costs £245 a year to tax. I have decided to sell it and add some towards it to buy a cheap to run small petrol car. I would get another newer K11 Micra as they are bullet proof but they are getting older and they rust. I do not think that my budget can stretch to a newer £20 tax year car like a 107 or C1. I really do not like french cars either except the 2 previously mentioned cars as I believe that they are Toyota running gear. I had thought about a Toyota Yaris, but then I got to thinking about a Hyundia Getz.. Sure they do not look great but I do not care. I just wondered are they reliable, economical and do they suffer badly with rust? Also do earlier Yaris' rust also? Or are there any other models to consider, I am really not sure about a Ford either, as my main car a Focus TDCI is starting to rust prematurely, and is also not as economical as some suggest. Is the later K12 Micra really a Renault? I would imagine that a Honda Jazz is out of my budget, again I know little about these but used to have an MB6 Civic and that was a brilliant car. Thanks for any advice. Read more

Thanks for the replies guys this helps a lot. I think I will definitely check a Getz out, just seems a bit cheaper than others and appears to have a decent reputation. I do not think that I will have any trouble getting in one as I am 6' tall not that big. Thanks agin.
