Hi, bought my fiesta preowned last september and had the aircon regassed as it was not working, totally empty the garage told me. Now only 6 months later it seems to be not very cold at all. How long should a regas last and is this indicative of a fault of some sort. Many thanks Read more
Probably a leak... a regas should last 4-5 years....
This budget is probably the most leaked that I can remember, we appear to have a very clear idea of what will be announced in many areas rather than mere speculation. The headline news will be the raising of the tax threshold for low earners which the Chancellor hopes will drag attention away from an expected move to scrap or announce plans to scrap the 50p top rate of income tax, which is an extremely risky political move even if it does net far lower than originally planned.
The upshot of all that though is i doubt there will be any move on fuel duty, given the expense incurred by raising the tax threshold - apparently stamp duty on properties over £2million will rise from 5% to 7% as well to compensate - which is a shame, the rise will hurt families more, damage business further and harm the economy. The 'gain' for low earners will be wiped out by fuel increases and despite the Commons voting to bring fuel prices down last year it seems the Chancellor will actively disregard that and increase it anyway.... Its not surprising the 3p rise has gone ahead, its the fact it was planned in the first place which is quite galling. Petrol is already 40-50p overpriced and still too many people dont realise its mostly due to Government tax, the oil price excuse is not valid.
At the very least there are no further increases planned and the VED rise is 'inflation only' which will probably be £10 added to most bands (again). Hopefully there will be more protests between now and August, the public and particularly the businesses he claims he's aiming to help with this budget.
Hi, This is my 1st post on the site, I have been lingering around for a while and though I would say Hi. Anyhow I was hoping to get some advice. I Purchased an Audi A1 1.4 TFSI Sport Brand new from an Audi Dealer on the 22nd of November 2011. Since the 15th of December onwards a number of problems have been present with the vehicle and the car has now been in on the following occasions: 12/1/12 - 13/1/12 18/1/12 - Home Visit 23/1/12 - 14/2/12 23/2/12 - 8/3/12 9/3/12 - Home Visit 10/3/12 - RAC Callout 11/3/12 - Audi Dedicated Visist. Car towed back to the dealership. The car has 16 issues, however the main issue for me is Water Ingress. When the car is left stationary overnight for example or during the hours I am at work, if there has been any rain/cold weather all the glass inside the vehicle will be very very misted and will be soaked in water. We are talking more than condensation and a few drops of water with all the glass absolutely drenched and water covering the whole dashboard and pop up screen. The dealer has witnessed this issue when they saw the car in this state outside my property. In the time they have had the vehicle they state they have been unable to replicate the fault and the only difference between my vehicle and the other A1's on their forecourt is the paint protection applied to the vehicle, this was applied by an Authorised Professional Detailer who has also applied the same product to 3 identical vehicles and none of those have suffered these issues. The car is on a PCP Agreement and during the period they have had the car 50 Days out of the 120 days I have owned it. I sent a letter of rejection to the supplying dealer, Audi Finance and Customer services and was informed they would not reject the vehicle as they believed they could resolve the issue and an agreement was made for the vehicle to go in on 1 further occasion: 23/2/12 and they would keep it for up to 1 month. The vehicle was returned to me on the 8/3/12 and I was informed they were happy it was all fixed and they had removed the Paint Protection from the vehicle. On the days following this the issue returned and both the RAC and Audi Assist guys stated they had never seen so much water in a car in the x number of years they had been doing this job. It was decided that Audi would need to inspect the car and one of the Audi Specialist viewed the vehicle on the 11/3/12 and has stated on the report "Suspect body shell not sealed" i have obviously pushed ahead with this. The dealer seems to have finally accepted my rejection of the vehicle however they have since stated that; Audi UK would be sending me a cheque or BACS Payment for the deposit paid. When I asked about a replacement vehicle they said this was not an option under the circumstances and that I was a sometimes difficult customer who expected perfection etc. So unfortuantely I am now going to be left without a vehicle when my work depends on the use of the car, and for me to get a car of like for like specification will require the car to be factory built for me and this is unlikely to arrive until September. If I go to another dealer they will not do the same deal for me and also I wanted to know where I stand legally as I have been making monthly payments on the car and have paid my document fee. Any advice would be appreciated Read more
This has also appeared in the Motoring section, where it has the advantage of paragraphs: so I'll close this one and invite more comments on the other.
Having had a few years on car loans and taking a hit each time I trade-in, I'm starting to consider leasing.
I've always been wary of it because I don't want to get raped at the end of the lease, I'd really like to find a genuinely reputable leasing company and I'd be really interested to hear from people who've gone through the end of their term with a company, I'm assuming everything is great when you get the car delivered as that's the easy bit.... yes that SLK deal was a belter!
That's the key to leasing, you have to look at the special deals on offer rather than have preconceived ideas about the exact car you want....

Hi, am new to this and need some help with my ford fiesta 1.4tdci its driving me crazy, It all started when I changed my Injectors after changing my injectors my turbo failed to work there was no EAC fault coming up on the dash, just the the turbo would not kick in. After rebuilding the ECU turbo worked fine but there was another problem the EAC LIGHT flashes on the dash and the battery light is very dim. Am assuming its down to the battery light i think it may be alternator or PCM module wire .. Can anyone help or give me some pointers please... Read more
What does the term 'Mimser' actually mean ?
I think I know but can anyone ghive us a one line clear definition ?... Read more
A mimser is a 40mph monospeeder who is overtaken by me, for pure devilment, 200 yards before a 30 zone >:-D
I have had one on the A68 in Scotland who overtook me again just after the 30 (when I slowed to an indicated 31) only to be flashed by a speed camera shortly afterwards. Made my day as I overtook him *again* when the speed went back to 60!
Hi my old santa fe td - 130k miles so quite new really - has some smokey issues - under any sort of load or aceleration and to some degree on tick over - its rather smokey .. not black more grey - not blue or white ... its not using oil or water and has been desooted with cleaner - starts on the button no problems, tick over nice and smooth , and does run ok apart from the smog out the back....doen the usual filters and oil - and a good dose of cleanner but not shifted it... thinking the injectors would be ok otherwise i would not start so easily, SO i am thinking EGR, TURBO or CAT ..Any thoughts out there! What do I need to do (cheapest way) in order to be an official trader? I'm not wanting full time just temporary for say 3 months. I'm in Cornwall and specific cars are virtually non existant and really overpriced dealer stock. My nearest decent auction centres are Bristol but as I'm after a Touran only one maybe two come up each week. I can't keep travelling to Bristol just to view one car at auction, I'd like to have auctionview or simulcast to bid live online, mainly even just to see what prices they are going for to make the journey wirthwhile, but can only have access to this as a full trader. (As I'm trying to save money and buy cash it appears I'm at a disadvantage now! Used to be a currency people understood!)
Hi guy ,it's an interesting point you raise ,cash is not a motivator these days for car dealers .
There are several reasons ,the handling of cash can be a pain ,are the notes forgeries . Banks often charge a fee if you pay more than a certain amount of cash into an account .
I ask my customers to pay by bankers draft or better still to pay by bank transfer
The day before they are due to collect the car .
The major reason though, is that the finance companies pay substantial commissions to dealers who organise finance on their behalf ,it can be more than the profit on the car .
Car supermarket operators will often refuse a potential sale if finance is not involved .
Good luck with your search for the touran.

Sliding pillar, no offence was meant but there are so many occasions where posters reply without reading fully the situation and as I see from your last post you relented somewhat now you realize the warranty situation, we had already tried to source an aftermarket part , you can ring any number you find on google and more and ill guarantee you not one will have a cat for that fox, the engine is specific to that model alone, the upshot is that VW uk and VW France whilst sympathetic say thst technically the car is off the road until a cat can be supplied once they find a factory in south america to start manufacturing them again ,
Bear in mind that the owner of this vehicle, my father, is in his eighties and specifically in later years bought main dealer cars for reliability and service to escape precisely the type of situation that has arisen here...
