Hi, I just had a failed MOT on n/s CVJoint. I am having difficulty sourcing the part, Renault say 10 days and that is too long. There is another boot shape for that make and year but it is a different shape. I have a factor number (7701204033) but not sure which company to use. Do you think there are good quality, universal boot kits I could use? Any good Renault part companys? Thanks, Matt Read more

If it failed on the CV joint, just fitting a new boot won't cure it. It needs a new CV.

A friend of mine has a newish A4 Estate All Road Automatic, and says he finds the diesel nothing like as responsive as the previous 2 litre petrol he had on an A6.

Anyone know anything about the 3.0 TDi? Read more

AT&T have developed a vibrating steering wheel that promises to deliver navigation information to drivers more safely than on-screen instructions or turn-by-turn Sat Nav commands. Clockwise vibration pattern means turn right, anti clockwise vibration turn right. Simples!

According to AT&T drivers accurately followed instructions and made fewer turn errors. The work also builds on other research showing that listening to voices is distracting and leads to loss of control of the vehicle.... Read more

The AT&T thing is just something to go wrong like all the other junk you have to have these days.

Above nearside wheel arch discharge pipe from auxiliary heater. Have had problems with VW agents who were of little help. Have connected a hose to this plastic pipe but cannot find an abvious point to discharge condensed water outside the vehicle. Read more

If you really mean the "auxiliary heater" the is only a combustion exhaust pipe there is no condensation discharge as such as it is a heater. Please explain. Regards Peter

My radio has stopped delivering AM programmes.
The FM reception is perfect. When tuned to AM noisy interference swamps the just-audible signal.

Do I need to buy a new radio?... Read more

I would suggest you check you aerial first, a weak AM signal is much more susceptible to noise than an FM one. Possibly water has got into the base.

what the best engine torque (rpm) for optimum fuel efficiency Read more

unthrottled

Assuming it's a naturally aspirated petrol engine, best efficiency will occur between 2000 and 3000 RPM and 70-80% of available torque at that speed.

You'll find that peak torque occurs at a higher RPM usually 4000-5000RPM. This is where best volumetric efficiency occurs. But best engine efficiency is usually below this....

Yeah, a way to increase capacity. But I would maintain it's just a fudge and a darned dangerous fudge at that.

If the hard shoulder can take the weight and wear of the traffic, it must have been built originally with this in mind. Room for future expansion.

it seems both are a similar price; so i'd personally pick the golf.

The golf has nicer interior and 'should' be more reliable - in reality i doubt it's any more reliable than the megane though....

Noise on left side of the engine, just had a service done two days ago,no probs before service. Whining noise on occasions especially when engine warm. Took it to garage, mechanic mystified but sprayed oil down side of engine, says it could be split pipe somewhere? Since spraying it doesn't seem to occur as much, but still there. Read more

Many thanks for the info BenG. I was going to have the recommended major service done (10yrs old) but the car has only done 61 thousand miles,so i opted for a full service instead. I'm a bit worried now on what you have said. Thanks again.
