Hi Guys,
My Partner has a Renault Clio 1.6 Automatic, 2002 petrol engine. Recently the Toxic fume light and engine light have started coming on and the car stalls when idling, this tends to happen when it has been on a longish (10 mile) journey and then left for half and hour and used again. It has happened on a 2 mile trip to tesco as well. Taking the car to the renault garage has proved a bit useless as they could not reproduce the fault and having looked at it twice have not found any fault that would explain the problem. I have read somewhere else that the fuses or relays in the front of the engine compartment could cause a similar problem if faults and I have reseated them and this seemed to clear the problem before but I dont know enough about cars to be too confident in this. If you leave the car for a while it seems to clear the problem.... Read more
Hi all,
I have a 2003 1.4 HDI diesel C3. I have had the heater plugs changed and the card started perfect for 1 week. then back to being 3 long turns before it was stating. Had a computer report done on it and it said temp sensor was not working to tell the plugs the car was cold so had that changed and it stated perfect for 3 months. its now doing the same again 3 long turns to start. Surley the sensor should not have gone again in such a short time ? Is there a way to test in on the car ? it cost me 40 for the diognostics last time and just should of £100 to have the sensor replaced. any advise please ?... Read more
Hi, The car ran perfect for 3 months. always stated as soon as the key was turned after the water temp sensor was changed I cannot see how the problem would be elsewhere when changing that solvered the problem for 3 months ?

my son has jusy passed his test and we have bought him a Fiat Punto thinking this will be an ideal first car. The cheapest quote so far is £3995 third party only with 99% of the others being over £5K! The car is only worth about £500. He had a motorbike for 12 months with no claims but no-one seems to take this into account. I have just tried the co-ops smart box scheme but they declined it due to a different sound system being installed in the car?
even on my insurance the cheapest i could get is £3600. How do young people afford this? you can see why there are so many driving with no insurance (even though i dont condone that!).... Read more
I feel your pain but fret not, something will materialise. It may be like some people have said that you should think about changing the car. I know the car only cost 500 but it is not just this that the insurance companies are taking into account when they quote. Largely it is the damage that these cars have caused to other cars / people / property in insurance claims.
Some companies specialise in certain areas and my son has just got his ford Ka insured with Acorn Insurance. link here - www.acorninsure.co.uk/car-insurance/young-driver-i.../...
Hi, I have a 2005 Mazda RX8 192, went out this morning and tried to start the car but it wont start. It cranks and tries to turn over but the car will not start? Anyone advise? Thanks. Read more
When you say the engine attempts to turn over do you mean it does crank or it doesn't? So to start again does the engine crank over well when you turn the key to start it? Or does it crank slowly as if the battery was flat? RX8s have rotary engines which are very simple in design and there's not that much actually to go wrong with them, but they are quite prone to flooding.
Assuming the engine cranks over well is it trying to fire? If it is I'd suspect it's flooded. If not do you have a good spark at the spark plugs? There are two plugs per rotor (a leading plug and a trailing plug), and each plug has its own ignition coil. The plugs are not that easy to access, I accept that, but you may need to remove one to check its condition and to see if it's wet with fuel....
Hi,
Yet another problem with this car, I wondered if anyone else has had a similar exerience as it is a bit strange.... Read more

I bought my 51 Astra 1.8 SRI a week ago, two days after the EML came on and has been since, it was followed by revs jumping from 500-2000rpm almost stools sounds like a misfire with a splutter when im warming it up, then when i pull away, the power well there just wasnt any. put clutch down and revved it hard and went on my way but then happens again a few mins later, there seems to be A shake while sat idle or at a stopped position i.e. at lights, traffic etc, the jumping revs still happen 20mins later from driving after being warmed up but the loss of power seems to of stopped when warm. ... The Lambda senser and plugs have been replaced, deffo not them now. The garage has said he will take it back to his workshop and strip the throttle body and clean it out completely then we can narrow that out aswell if its ok. but if you can think of other things thats could cause please let me know.
Thanks
Does anyone know where I stand, if I have bought a new car that isn't to the spec that I bought?
I was told that it had inbuilt bluetooth which was as stated on the internet for this specific spec. I wanted this spec as it did include this as I do alot of driving. Since purchasing the vehicle I have tryed to connect to the bluetooth from my mobile fone, with no such luck. I spoke to the garage I purchased the vehicle from and they said that the salesman should have told me that a few of these vehicles were built without, due to the floods in Japan and the parts coming from there werent delivered.... Hiya, Yes I checked the car over and the salesman even told me when showing controls that it had bluetooth. But as I had bluetooth on my previous car and being a Renault Megane, I said I know how to set it all up, as I did on my Megane and I have set my fathers up on his Laguna.
They want to put a Parrott kit in, but im not sure if this is enough. I feel that Renault have lied to me in previous correspondence and feel that I have not recieved good customer service....
Now the weather is getting colder the van will not start in the morning. It turns over fine, but will not fire. It will start with a tow, then run all day. Next day it will be the same thing in the morning. Any clue what to look for? Read more
No, no spark plugs in a diesel. The heat of the compressed air ignites the fuel. Usually it's an electronic control unit that senses temperature and controls the injection (if the fuel is injected later in the stroke the air in the cylinder is compressed more ergo more heat) instead of glow plugs nowadays.
Hi everyone, ok - So here goes, My car started to develop a squeeking sound from the left rear tyre, about 4 days after, i've had the [p] (parking brake) light appear and the ESP light, VW main dealer told me i need a new ABS pump for £1,500.00, been reading a lot of information about things it could be but get no-where.
I have found a company that will fix the ABS module for £125.00 + postage but wanted to rule out other things first...I've got NO ABS warning light on and my brake lights are for some reason always on.... Read more
Brake pressure sensor fault is a well known problem on Vag and other makes that use a similar Ate abs sytem.Vw now do a repair modulator for this fault. The part costs around £200.Allow approx 2 hrs to fit and bleed brakes. It does not need a complete abs unit.hth
Hello!
I've been reading the database from the site about the Xantia suspension problems. So far i have found some really interesting things but none of threads is accurate on the problem my car has been presenting for about 6 months.... Read more
I would double check that you have the correct spheres.
Sorry I can' t offer any solutions, but can share similar experience. My daughter's 03 petrol clio has shown the 'toxic fumes' and 'engine' warning lights. The car is taking in water somewhere - perhaps the sunroof / drain, so there's some damp in the car. It's been standing for a couple of weeks over the holiday period. I drove the car briefly yesterday and found the tickover was very erratic, almost to the point of dying. This morning, after only ten minutes' drive, the warning lights came on... Hopefully some of this might help someone identify the fault.... cheers and happy new year.
