Hi quadrant,
are you talking from experience?...
Son is buying an Octavia 1.2 Tsi SE. It has 205/60 R15V tyres fitted as standard. The selection of replacement tyres available is very poor compared to the 205/55 R16V tyres fitted on the SE Plus or Elegance Models. In particular there are no major brand winter tyres and no reinforced options as well as being more expensive.
My question is that if he fits 205/60 R15H tyres, a much better selection becomes available, including reinforced (95 vs 91 load rating), but will his insurance (Direct Line) allow this? H ratings are good to 130mph and the car he will have has a top speed of 119mph, so I dont see why not.... Read more
>>>Also will fitting a reinforced tyre (with a load rating of 95 vs 91) have any adverse effect on handling etc.
Not that you'd notice. It will be a bit stiffer (sidewalls) so perhaps a little bit noisier at speed but that will depend on the make of tyre (check tyreyest dot com for comparatives for comfort, interior noise if concerned) and slightly better at shrugging off pot holes than a softer tyre.

Hi there I'm about to move to a hilltop village in the Chilterns. We've been advised to get a 4WD as it can get cut off in winter. Is this really necessary? Next question will be what should I get. Or can I get away with front wheel drive? Read more
I'd probably go with the winter tyres instead. Braking works on all 4 wheels anyway; 4WD might get you going a bit quicker but you'd need the grip from the appropriate tyres as well. I guess ground clearance is their main advantage.
Turn the ignition on for 30 seconds to prime filter via lift pump in tank, it will self bleed
Hardly a showstpper problem, but does anyone know where the daylight sensor for the automatic headlights is?
SWMBO's headlights stay on in the daytime with the switch in "auto", so either the sensor has failed or something is obscuring it. Read more
OK thanks - must be in there with the rain sensor for the wipers (yes even on a Micra).
About 13 months ago now I pulled in to a taxi rank to let someone out of the car (a bit naughty I know). I stopped about 8 feet behind a taxi that was parked there. The taxi driver then got out of his minibus and started accusing me of hitting his car, despite the fact that there was no damage. The driver was a very large and intimidating man who was getting very angry, so I decided for the safety of me and my passenger, we would leave and report him to the police. I some later got an letter of intention to procecute on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and careless driving, once I had spoken to the police and linked the incident to the call I had made, all charges were dropped on the basis of there being no evidence of anything happening. He also tried to claim on my insurance, but after eight months with him presenting no wittness or evidence of damage my insurance company informed me the claim had been closed. However about a month after this, nine months after the incident, the taxi driver suddenly found a witness and the case was reopened. My insurance are now saying that they don't believe that there is much prospect of my sucess in court and they intend to settle against me out of court (my insurance company still can't tell me what damage he is claiming for). It seems that there is nothing I can do to defend myself despite there is what I would call a reasonable doubt that an incident ever occured. Is there anything I can do, or is it possible for people to claim that anyone they see driving past has crashed into them, providing they throw someone a few quid to be a witness for them? I probably should mention that I did have an actual accident, were a learner driver pulled out at a junction, then stopped in the middle of the road with me running in to the back of them - a claim that I admitted liability for and was settled by my insurance company. This meant that when the incident with the taxi driver occured, I had damage to the front of my car - some thing I suspect he saw as an opportunity.

Hello clonedagain, unusual for legal cover not to include this situation, you are disputing a claim afetr all. If they still won't play ball try the legal cover on your household insurance policy. This usually covers you for public liability and may be effective.
Also try the local authority and their taxi licencing office. If a taxi has been damaged, no matter how slightly it has to report this and catalogue the damage to assess roadworthyness. If he has not done this, bingo, you have hit the jackpot. Especially if he has no record of repairs. A bit late for advice, but always carry a camera and take pictures, this will put off the most blantant scammer....
I've a new shape VW Polo that has alloys and a steel wheel as a spare. There are no extra bolts for the steel wheel.
I've bought a set of 4 winter tyres on steel wheels from mytyres. The steel wheels looks similar where the bolts go so am I right to assume that the alloy bolts will work with the steel wheels? Read more
So long as the bolt seats are correct you're in business LL, enjoy your winter grip.
Many thanks for the most important post, the update, too few bother.
We have a 2nd hand Ford Focus Xetex LX X Reg 2000 and just recently we have been experiencing the problem as set out below:

Now that is what actually really drove my anger levels through the roof in the Ford Dealership.
I allowed them to change the dash cluster, but guess what happened? Was driving down a hill near Kendal, Audi 4x4 right behind, speed dropped to zero and cut out 3 times within the space of a mile, quick reactions and thinking I got the car fired up each time before nursing it to the Dealership.
The service manager couldn't even look me in the eye when I stated what had happened, but his own words 'must be the speed sensor then'
My reply back was 'THATS WHAT I SAID IN THE FIRST PLACE'
Agitated is not the word, but oddly enough, since then, we've numerous issues and problems with the car. It's cost a mini fortune now, so we're looking to part ex this year

Yes, it was the low compression van engine they fitted in the Bond in a vain attempt to keep the front wheel on the ground.
It weighed nothing, you could lift the front by hand....
