I've a Mazda RX8 R3 that is now 15,000 miles & 2 1/2 years old and still under the manufacturer's 3-year guarantee. I've 3 issues that I want to take up on the warranty and would appreciate some advice on whether I'm being realistic or not:

1. Gearbox. Unless I double declutch or go from 5th gear, the synchromesh grinds away and I can't get 6th gear. Playing with the engine revs makes no difference. Also, the gearbox is very notchy in 1, 2 and 3, particulalry when cold so that I've developed the habit of double declutching every time I move between 1, 2 & 3.... Read more

1. sounds like clutch to me, so I would imagine that's a consumable item.

2. corrosion under the paint, will get a lot worse. Could well be a manufacturing fault....

hi does any know anything about free play on ford focus clutch pedals when releaseing the clutch ie when you press down, results in long travel of clutch and to my mind uncomfortable leg postion to avoid rideing the clutch as the pressure needed to depress the clutch is slight.clutch is firm after this point and biteing point nice and low.any help much appriciated as ford main dealer does not seem to think this is solverble and "its just free play" Read more

Not sure if you mean that the bite point is too low or too high, but perhaps this depends on how worn the clutch is? I always found the clutch on my Focus TDCI ('03 model) had a bite point close to the top of the travel and was quite sharp, so that it was easy to stall the engine, but it was the original clutch after 62k miles so may have not been at its best. I'm not sure if it's possible to adjust the pedal so that the clutch bites at a different point in the travel, but from the reply of the Ford garage it sounds like this might not be possible.

The outer cover on the N/S headlamp is broken and needs replacing. Does the bumper need taking off to get the headlamp out of its hole in the bodywork? I've undone the two screws at the top and the clip at the left lower corner, but can't see how it is secured at the lower right corner.

Thanks all! Read more

The trim panel below the headlight is held on by one clip on the left (radiator)side. The outer edge of this panel has two pegs which located into two holes behind. As you appear to have removed the clip all that is securing this panel is friction. A sharp pull or a bit of leverage should detach it. This will reveal the remaining screw holding the light

Earlier this year a mate bought a Mazda MX-5. Unfortunately he hasn't enjoyed it as much as anticipated. He now wants to get something else. He's seen and driven a Mazda 3, 1.6, 17,000 miles, 2006, 5 door hatch, which would be £1300 to change. The Audi A3, 3 door, 63,000 miles, 2004 would be £1000 to change.

He likes both but wonders if the Mazda will depreciate more. He does about 9,000 miles a year. I think the Mazda would be the better buy but have read Mazda dealer after sales are not good. He likes to go to main dealers for servicing! I think he is swayed by the prestige of the Audi having had a MKV Golf before the MX-5.... Read more

A case of heart vs head. I probaly wouldn't have bought either. I believe the Seat wasn't the top spec. The guy is on holiday for a week, so wanted a deal wrapped up this week.

Just been to York and back.

Going up no problem I found a couple of stations and refilled so as to arrive with virtually a full tank. Wittering and Pontefract. A different story coming back.... Read more

Going up to York from Herts and wondered if anyone knows a good cafe truckstop - whatever - for a good English breakfast.

I've found Jayne's Place near Blyth (Notts) anyone know it, or get a better suggestion?... Read more

The Stockyard is excellent and is well worth the diversion on the M18 to get there.

It has won the 'Truckstop of the Year' awards many times:)...

I agree with the above - go for a petrol. Children of that age need a lot of gubbins to be carted about, so have a look at a Focus estate, Kia Ceed SW or (a bit bigger ) a Skoda Octavia estate. Even the Skoda Fabia estate has more room than your 307 - which I suspect has had neglectful previous owners and sounds like a money-pit. Gordonbennet is right about the HDI engine, but French cars don't stand up well to abuse or neglect.

A Nissan Note - good car with a silly name - might be worth looking at: plenty of room without being a full-size (and therefore more expensive) MPV.

i've been googling but can't find a guide what the inspection codes supposed to mean. after priming the ignition this in ** code appears and according to my garage in 00 means it's ok but they can't / won't tell me what in 01 or in 02 mean so if anyone has a clue plz share :) Read more

Does this suggest a blown head gasket - hope not!... Read more
