I have an annoying rattle from the rear nearside or possibly the tailgate of my 2006 deisel Avensis hatchback. The spare wheel and jack are secure and there are no other items in the boot. I have removed all inspection covers to make sure there is nothing loose, wiper motor, lock mechanism, light clusters etc. I have even removed all the floor covering and used a flexible hose on a vacuum cleaner to clear out all the nooks and crannies I can get to. I am sure that it is not the seats as the rattle exists when I carry passengers. I can't see any adjustment to tighten the hatch door. It may be a rear seat belt reel but I can't fathom out how to get to them. My only other thought is that it may be the anti syphon device in the fuel filler pipe. It is a tinny rattle like something knocking lightly on bare metalwork. Any ideas out there? Read more

I was wondering if anybody has ever managed to claim compensation for damage caused by speed humps? Although I tend to drive over them very slowly as my car is rather low with firm suspension (by design not modification) I recently bottomed out badly on one as I had three people in the car compared to the usual one/two. This damaged both my stainless steel (lifetime guarantee) exhaust and the handbrake mechanism. I am convinced there must have been accidents caused by speed hump damage and now feel enforced lower limits are the answer rather than these obstructions!

Whilst I am in rant mode the other evening I was going over a series of humps when a Range Rover caught up with me. This idiot with a shoe size higher than his IQ then proceeded to flash his lights and sound his horn repeatedly. If he had engaged brain he would have noticed that I was driving a low slung coupe and not a 4x4. The silliest thing about it was that 20 yards later he turned off - moron! Read more

I sympathise completely. I now take a longer route home to avoid the dreaded humps in Pack Lane Basingstoke. Vans, lorries, buses, taxis, 4x4 just ignore the humps and tailgate drivers who go carefully to avoid damage to their cars. Motorbikes have a weaving around the humps technique. Local council says it isn't anything to do with them now as the road policy is made by the county........

Anybody see Watchdog this week with the segment about the DPF's? If you didnt see it there was nothing that we hadnt heard before and was essentially the same thing we've been saying for ages to all buyers who come on here asking for advice.

Its interesting how its taken the nations foremost staple of consumer advice programming so long to pick up on it. The case of the man who bought the diesel Fiat 500 for driving round town and later discovered this wasnt a good idea said bluntly that he was never informed that it wasnt an ideal town car. Fiat laughably responded by denying the 500 is intended to be or advertised as a 'city car.'... Read more

Agree re the annoying presenter. But then, most of them are.

Fairly obvious what would happen to a car hitting a block at that speed....

I took this out 3 months ago to enable my son to get second driver insurance cover on my car at a reasonable price. We had the box fitted which tracks driving performance and have been monitoring 'our' driving style on line ever since. The rating over the weeks was 'good' and lo and behold a safe driver refund of £25 appeared in my bank account last week. So, £15 for me and ten for him - buys a couple of pints and is an encouragement for him to carry on driving sanely. He's a retained firefighter so he has seen a few car crashes but nevertheless I'm warming to the Co-Op's slightly big brother approach to young drivers.

Even my own driving in that car has moderated!... Read more
